EASY TRES LECHES CAKE | How To Make Tres Leches Cake | Three Milks Cake Recipe

Today I continue my FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT recipe series with an easy delicious Tres Leches Cake! You can use the boxed cake mix of your choice or make sponge cake from scratch, but the milk syrup I use is perfect for this cake and I hope you give it a try.
INGREDIENTS
1 boxed cake mix of your choice (I used Classic White)
1/3 cup (79 ml) vegetable oil
8 fluid oz (236 ml) water
4 large eggs
MILK SYRUP
12 fluid oz (355 ml) evaporated milk
12 fluid oz (355 ml) heavy cream
14 fluid oz (414 ml) sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
orange peel (optional)
1 cinnamon stick (optional)
CAKE TOPPING
16 fluid oz (473 ml) heavy cream
2 TBSP confectioner's sugar
Fresh fruit of your choice for garnish
-In a bowl combine boxed cake mix, oil, water, eggs and mix well
-In a 9x13 baking pan greased and lined with parchment paper, pour cake batter
-BAKE in a PREHEATED oven @ 325ºF for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean
-Cool cake completely
MILK SYRUP MIXTURE
-In a sauce pan add evaporated milk, heavy cream, orange peel and cinnamon stick
-Bring to a gentle simmer using a low to medium low heat
-Once milk simmers, remove from heat and allow to steep for 15 minutes
-Once mixture is cooled, discard orange peel and cinnamon stick
-Then add sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract and mix well
SOAK THE CAKE
-Remove cake from pan and flip on to platter
-Be sure to level cake before putting on to platter
-Then slice off the cake exterior crust to allow cake to soak up the milk syrup better
-Once cake is prepared, slowly pour milk syrup all over the cake
-cover in cling wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 to 5 hours, overnight for best results
-In a large bowl pour in heavy cream and beat until soft peak stage
-Then add sifted powder sugar
-Continue to beat until stiff
-Frost cake with whipped frosting and garnish with fresh fruit of your choice
Serves 16 pieces

Wow. I made this yesterday and I have to say this has to be the best tres leches cake I’ve had. Wow it was so amazing. All my family loved it. And we’ve had plenty of tres leches cakes in the past as we come from a Hispanic culture. I didn’t want to complicate myself with the separation of the yolks and all those things since my time is very limited with a little baby so I went for this recipe. I didn’t have white mix so I actually used yellow and turned out fantastic. I used 3 tablespoons of white confection sugar instead of 2 I made my own evaporated milk because I didn’t have any.(just bring milk to boil and let it reduce by about half the quantity took me like 20mins still frequently medium heat) Decorated with peaches and in the center I did three roses of strawberries(there’s a really easy KZbin tutorial ) Anyway I’m so happy I made this, thank you for an amazing recipe. You have gained a new subscriber ❤️

It's definitely a long process, especially when you make the sponge cake from scratch, but the cake mix version is what I usually opt for. Texturally the cake box version is a lot softer than scratch made sponge cake, but it still works fine. 😊

I found that the longer the cake sat in the milk the better the consistency and taste. Today is day two and it taste amazzing ! Yesterday it was a bit heavy and you could definitely tel it was box cake. Today not so much. Thank you for this recipe ☺️!!!

I've made this cake a few times, and my family loves it. I use the Betty Crocker Vanilla Mix or Yellow, (I prefer the Yellow for this recipe) and I dont use 12 fluid oz (355 ml) heavy cream for the milk syrup, I use 2% milk and put a bit of the heavy cream. It also tastes good without the whipped cream topping!

i take the wooden handle and poke holes in mine. I do this on a German Chocolate cake; poke holes and pour sweetened condensed milk, and caramel sauce over warm cake. when cake is cooled add whipped topping and crushed heath bars. look forward to making this cake. Gale

@@erlindagarica2979 Betty Crocker German chocolate cake fixed and baked according to package directions. When removed from oven and cake is still warm, poke holes all over cake (I use the handle of a round narrow end of wooden spoon; used to use a fork, but it kept pulling up the cake.Just go easy.) Then pour sweetened condensed milk all over the top of the cake. Wait a couple of minutes allowing it to go through cake, then take jar of caramel sauce (my preference is the caramel sauce from Aldi) and pour it over the sweetened condensed milk. Let cake completely cool then add cool whip. Top with crumbled up English toffee - Heath brand, Skor, or the brand of your choice. I allow to sit covered in the refrigerator over night before cutting into. Very moist, light, and sweet! Enjoy. Gale
