I made Hydrogen in the past with Aluminum Galinstan amalgam in water. I also recently produced more Hydrogen from Aluminum Galinstan amalgam in ethanol water. The Galinstan needs more Indium to be eutectic. The trick is to amalgamate the Aluminum foil with Galinstan and heat up the crucible until it all melts, move it with the back of the spoon (or ideally a glass stir rod or something), and then let it cool.

It's not the chemicals in the water that causes the caustic soda to heat up when you first dissolve it - it's just the water itself as the process of dissolving sodium hydroxide is exothermic
@benjaminboonen83613 жыл бұрын
I think you're incorrect, I think it is just the splitting of the H2O molecules into H2 + O2, it is a very exothermic reaction and I think that causes the heat to become free, correct me if I'm wrong
@liamanderson64243 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminboonen8361 Unfortunately, splitting water is highly endothermic. Remember when you blow up the hydrogen in oxygen, it releases a heat in an explosion? Hence forming water is exothermic, so by law the splitting of water is endothermic. If it were exothermic, why would we be using electricity to drive it in the first place?
@benjaminboonen83613 жыл бұрын
@@liamanderson6424 but there is no reaction in the dissolving of the soda going on that actually produces heat it's just dissolving. As far as I know, if you sift the aluminum hydroxide out of the water it is still caustic enough to create hydrogen when you add aluminum again, wouldn't it be the aluminum reacting that is exothermic then?
@liamanderson64243 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminboonen8361 Correct, aluminium reacting with sodium hydroxide is extremely exothermic, which is what wikipedia says. I just got confused because he remarks how the water got warm before he puts in the aluminium. to those who are inexperienced (u should do this anyway) NaOH is an extremely strong base. this is because it will pretty much fully ionize in water unlike an equilibrium reaction with something such as baking soda. now An acid or base is not really an acid or a base until it is ionized in water. Pure hydrochloric acid is a gas (not ionized) so we just call it Hydrochloric gas until it hits the water in your mouth and lungs. point being that u should use gloves and goggles when handling these things. i am experienced and i still do this. BELIEVE ME when that shit burns u it is all bad. also it is better to use your NaOH in solution when doing reactions rather than constantly exposing it to air, when u pre mix it in water u know the concentration (molarity = mols/L) and the concentration will not change if stored properly. however every time u open that container of sodium hydroxide powder and expose it to air you are decreasing the purity. this is because NaOH is Hydroscopic (sucks water from the air) so over time you will never know the purity of your powder anymore. that is why it is better to handle in premade solutions of known concentrations for best results. -to the maker of the video- i know u might know these things or maybe not, but please in the future remind others to take these precautions (would be better if u did too, set good examples) someone who does not know this info could really hurt themselves or others. anyway i hope that helps!

Aluminum Hydroxide is basically an antacid. Wikipedia it. Its sold OTC as an antacid. Its toxicity is extremely low. You could take it to a plant for reforming back into aluminum but they probably wont want it because its not enough for them to "recycle". Id just sit it out and let it evaporate, then scape the "dust" into a ziploc back and toss it. Probably the safest way tbh. It would amount to throwing away expired antacid pills. Literally zero environmental impact.

Why don't we use this method for producing hydrogen in industrial scale. Will hydrogen peroxide cause some kind of environment effect ??
@gregorykusiak54243 жыл бұрын
The energy needed to refine bauxite into pure enough aluminum is considerable…but the hydrogen produced could power a generator, I suppose, so there would be a degree of self sustainability to the process. But you’d have to run that past actual chemists and engineers whether it’s worthwhile to attempt at scale.
@alfredharrison5972 жыл бұрын
This video has nothing to do with "Hydrogen Peroxide".
@alfredharrison5972 жыл бұрын
@@gregorykusiak5424 You are right but the problem is Bauxite is a material needed to make aluminum, to make hydrogen. At this point you're just turning bauxite into Hydrogen - effectively breaking it down over several steps. Unfortunately with this, each step involved requires efficiency to drop. My theory is to use aluminum WASTE and combine that waste with Gallium to break the oxide layer and form the gallium-infused pellets i will make into "inert" stored energy. Since you can store such pellets indefinitely. Think "Wood chips" with a LOT of energy when combined with distilled water. Also keep in mind that my methodology literally requires zero energy. And that's the key with working with energy. You want to have the least amount of INPUT and maximize your output. Thermal dynamics unfortunately makes this very difficult for us. But I will tell you 100% if I tool 100 empty soda cans and sold them for 'recycling' i've already lost because the amount of time and gas it took me to drive to the recycling place, and that's not even taking into account the processing of the cans, shipping them to a place that can process those, cutting them up and firing them to get rid of the paint or just melting it all down, just so they can be sold back to the consumer again. At least with my method i'm literally turning aluminum can waste into energy, without using a single bit of energy to do so. So I bought soda to drink, then washed out the can with water, then put Gallium on them, then form the can into many fuel pellets. And when it comes time to need H2 to either cook with or light a fire with or fuel an elec. generator I just put some pellets into some distilled water and then capture it. Free energy.
