The Solar System is a vast cosmic system consisting of the Sun and all celestial objects bound to it by gravity. At its center is the Sun, a star around which planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and other smaller bodies orbit. The eight recognized planets in order of their distance from the Sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Each planet has its own unique characteristics, ranging from rocky terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars) to gas giants (Jupiter and Saturn) and ice giants (Uranus and Neptune). The Solar System also includes a myriad of moons, with Earth's Moon being one of the most familiar. Beyond the planets and moons, there are countless asteroids and comets, remnants of the Solar System's formation billions of years ago. Understanding the Solar System is crucial to understanding the broader universe and our place within it.
