Great job, I never thought to do that, will try this tomorrow. And I like that with the drill press keeps the tap straight for you. So much easier. Thanks

Had I known this I would have saved many taps. Really thankful to you for showing the way.

I don't know why I never tapped like this, considering I have a milling machine which is better than a drill press. plus I drill my holes with it, so I can easily put the tap on and everything will line up perfectly. I guess I never thought of putting a bar in the chuck to turn the tap.

@@Fighter4Street Yes, indeed we all learn through sharing of experience. Milling machine will definetly be a better option.

@@upward_onward I actually just tapped a hole with a plug tap in stainless steel. At first it was not working out but then I used a lot more force to push down on the tap with the handle. It finally tapped the hole. The 2nd hole is having the tap spin in the drill chuck, will have to deal with that slippage. I got oil on the whole tap I think. I wish he discussed how much force he was using to push down on that tap. Next time I would use a taper tap to start the hole and not a plug tap.

In the begining it's a lot of pressure maybe 40-50lbs. Once the thread is started it does t take more than a couple lbs to keep cutting

Works great, just used this way to tap a half inch hole, thanks for making and posting the video, it got me out of a funk. Tomorrow I have to make about a hundred more.

With 100 more taps. You should invest in a dedicated tapping machine

Will this work also in plasma cut holes? Plasma cut surfaces are even more hardened and brittle.

I haven't tried that but you could give it a shot

'Like' for the drill chuck handle. I was doing by hand this morning; luckily it was shallow holes for set screws.

Kinda funny to me when you mention all the fluids one can use to lubricate the tap, didn’t mention actual THREAD CUTTING OIL 🤣

I skipped the part where you said not to keep applying pressure and bore a bigger hole ☹ great tip though!
