Easy Whittling - Turtle Wood Carving Part 1

Hello there and welcome to our new tutorial on carving a turtle out of wood. As you might have seen already, we got a little excited about carving wood sea animals (since our previous tutorial on a sea dragon). Honestly I would love a video without the music and just the sound of the wood being carved. I find the sound of wood being carved very relaxing... I'm not sure why. 🤷🏻 I really need to get me some of those chisels! Right now I only have a couple on knives.

you can use different types of wood, the easiest one is basswood :) it takes 3-5 hours to carve a turtle.

It's a terrible situation. Every beginner should be careful and do not press so hard on the knife. For that, it's better to use basswood as it cuts very easily like butter, so basswood doesn't need a hard pressure

How do u keep the rounded chisel so sharp?

We use only hand tools in our videos. Wood carving is just a relaxing hobby when you take a tool and a piece of wood and enjoy the process

You can use a pull saw. Some whittlers prefer not to use power tools depending on the size of their project. For example I don't use any at all because I live in an apartment, and I prefer the sound more than the whirr of power pools. Might get a dremel though.

Whau.....that a very time consuming way of removing wood. Use an axe or a larger knife until close to the pencil lines. Very frustrating to watch this ;-)
