This video is, by far, the best example of how to do a buttonhole on ribbing. Simple, easy to follow examples and it was as if a lightbulb went on over my head/EUREKA!!!! Thank you so very much!!

You are who I always come to when working on knit cardigans, since they’re so new to me. I followed a pattern with gauge and sizing and it still came out big. So I’m going to modify the ribbed band to a buttonhole band I think, so that it will close nicely. Thank you!

Thank you! So helpful, doing a K2P2 rib on the barnstaple vest, and using the raku ceramic buttons I’ve been hoarding for 5 years or so. 😊 They are square, and chunkier than regular buttons, so definitely need a bigger buttonhole than one YO will provide.

Thank you so much for the clear demonstration. I have just had to unpick my button hole band after getting into difficulty with the buttonholes. I am sure that I will now be able to do it right with your instructions in front of me. My pattern just said k2tog,yo which was pretty useless for a novice on buttonholes!

I thought I had this straight in my head after watching your video, but now I’m not sure again because I’m working a K1P1 rib band but for the button hole the pattern wants me to cast off 2 stitches. I’m so confused which technique to use!

There are lots of ways to make buttonholes. Your pattern is calling for a method that is different from the YO method.

Is this method in 1 into1for small button hole or big one....
@marjoriebell1984 жыл бұрын
Are you familiar with June Hammond Hiatt’s variation on the eyelet buttonhole? In her book (Principles of Knitting), she calls it the Narrow Eyelet Buttonhole. It’s a bit fussier to make but looks much better and is also more durable. This is also the small buttonhole that Catherine Lowe teaches in her classes.

This is Annabelle again. I guess there is no way for me to attach a picture of my work so that people could see what the problem is or so that Roxanne could see it, is there?

Thank you, the stupid pattern I had just wanted me to stretch the rib to make the button holes which was... NAH just messy and innefective so I used this technique with sucess instead.

Thank you so much. I have made button holes, but they always looked so messy or didn't line up with the other side of the sweater and now I know why! I didn't know the YO's were to replace the purl stitches. Question for you. What are the knitting needles you were using in this video? They are beautiful!
@RoxanneRichardson4 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help! I typically mention in the video description things like yarn and needles used. Let me know if you don't see them listed.

Could anyone help me if Roxanne doesn’t see this? Dear Roxanne. I dearly hope that you can help me. I am making a child’s sweater which calls for k2p2 pattern on the button band. I tried to do the wool forward k2tog to make my buttonholes, and they looked beautiful. The problem was that as I continued to knit, I became aware of certain places on right side of the button band, where it looked as if there was a pearl where a knit should’ve been. Do you think that was caused by the fact that sometimes when I had to knit two together, it was a knit and a pearl stitch? I can give you a picture of my work. I can also give you the pattern that I am working on. I would be grateful for your help or if there is anyone else there who could help me, I would be so very thankful. It is pattern SIRDAR 1928, size 1-2 years. My name is Annabelle.

The video demonstrates a single YO buttonhole in a k1p1 pattern and a double YO buttonhole in a k2p2 pattern. Are you doing the YOs on the RS of the work? Are you trying to do a single YO buttonhole in your k2p2 fabric? If you're doing the YOs on the WS, or if you're doing a single YO in k2p2 fabric, you may need a different strategy. If you need more help with this, you can always post your question in my Ravelry Group, Rox Rocks, along with a photo of the problem. There is always a link to my Ravelry group in the video description of every video.

Dear Roxanne. I cannot tell you how shocked and deeply grateful I am that you wrote back to me right away. You are an amazing lady already in my eyes. I am so desperate for your help. Is it okay if I reply to the message you wrote 15 years ago in your Rox Rocks group on Revelry? As long as I know you will see it, I will do that.

@@annabellebannister9661 I don't recommend replying to a 15 year old post. Create a *new* post, give it an appropriate title, and then explain what it is you're having problems with.
