SimBrief Tutorial - MSFS2020 (creating an A320 flight plan)

A tutorial on using SimBrief to create an Operational Flight Plan (OFP) for the default FS2020 A320 Neo based on real-world settings. This video takes you through creating a full flight plan and also importing it into MSFS2020.

Hello. Just one little thing. If you want to start "cold and dark" at a gate or a ramp, you can change departure runway to that, using the scroll down list under runways. In this tutorial you will end up ready for take at or on the runway with everything configured, and engines running. Just a little tip. :-) The tutorial is absolutely great.

Not sure if you have covered the process in a previous video but last night the arrival runway needed to be changed due to the winds not being favourable, how do I change the ILS runway in the McDoo in the descent? great content by the way, stay safe and keep up the great work.

Good question. You can simply select your arrival airport again from the F-plan menu on the MCDU, click on arrivals and select the new approach.

Very nice Lady vermy much knowledge. Only big Problem I have with you is your speed you talk made only for advanced airman/woman. All those who wants to learn from you will fail because of your unclear speech to declare all about very and too quick. Would be nice to let also learn the beginners the meaning of it in good didactical way. WE KNOW NOW THAT YOU KNOW ALL... remember some learners will learn an make a note of it but brake your speed and clear your voice for those who learn here from you. Simbrief tells me that I don't have enough fuel to fly a 737-800 more than 1000 miles. When I make a flight plan I always run out of fuel after taking the block fuel plus extra.

On the right hand side near the top, OFP layout, you can change the airline layout to reflect how each airline provides their pilots with their flight plan.

@@chrisg8642 that all depends on which A320 version you are using. In MSFS2020, the one I link to in the comments would work for any livery. In real life, every aircraft is slightly different, depending on how the airline has their cabin (seats etc) laid out.

In the simulator settings, you can choose to use either LBS Or KG.

Hi I just noticed than when changing start for example from the gate or approach then the whole flight plan changes. Why is that? You can also see it in this video. When you clicked different approach the flight plan was changed.

The only way to prevent this is to select the gate from the drop down menu rather than clicking on it.

So, I've been using Sim Brief since watching this video and improving. Thanks. But I have a question. Many times the designated SID and STAR in SimBrief does not exist in FS2020. It just load as "direct" and I manually find a suitable one within the simulator. Often simsbrief's SID and STARS differ like, one character from the simulator's. For example: simbrif give KIAK4D and the simulator has something like KIAT6D (fictional just for example). There were a couple times that not even a similar name of SID or STAR existed. My question is: are there more SIDs and STARS than the ones in FS2020 lists? We get a real flight plan but always have to tweak inside the game? Not that it's a problem, but is so fucking annoying having to cycle those lists inside the game to find the proper SID, when not automatically loaded by simsbrief's .pln

Setting the take off runway and entering the SID & STAR in the MCDU should be done even after importing a Simbrief flight plan. Usually, one letter/number difference can be linked to using a different runway way (ie 23R can use SAMBA1A & 23L SAMBA1S). Also, do you have a a navigraph subscription and using the latest AIRAC cycles?

@@Easyjetsimpilot ohhh man, im right now planning EGKK to EDDF and that "AIRAC" out of date caught my attention. Maybe its loading some very old routing that FS2020 doesnt recognize. Once i departed from EGKK with a preloaded SID, so its wierd. I will check that, tho Navigrah maybe too expensive due to currency exchange. thnaks!!

Really thorough - I have struggled with how to actually get the flight plan (WITH APPROCH !) into MSFS - and then I realized you can do it with the World Map ! but now Sim Brief adds another cool layer. But what about importing to the MCDU ? Is that any better ? Or just for Xplane ? I added my SIM BRIEF ID to it - I see my ID on the MCDU under options AOC ...is that any better ? Thanks so much

U2 is used for the flight number. EZY for the callsign by ATC (or EJU in Europe and EZS for Easyjet Swiss)

OFP - Operational Flight Flan (so the flight plan that you are producing) & each airline has different layouts for their pilots. EZY is the Easyjet layout & there are other airlines available on simbrief too. (British Airway, American etc)

Simbrief is free. You just require a subscription if you want the latest AIRAC cycle. This isn't essential if you aren't too bothered the latest NAV data as they do not change that much from month to month.

And the flight routes on simbrief dont show airstrip to airstrip, they show airport to airport (with sometimes bizarre flight plans”. No. If you are doing it manually, you'd have to load everything in yourself. Please see the latest set of tutorial videos that replaces this one as this is quite old now and the Flybywire team have brought many improvements to the A320NX and how to link it with Simbrief.

Navigraph will supply you with the airport charts, but SimBrief is the best free flightplanning tool available.
