hi, I made this tutorial at the beginning of the year and that paper stand is still going strong, it’s so great for so many uses -video calls, selfies, when I’m learning guitar or using my phone for painting reference, watching videos, recipes, it even holds my Nintendo switch which is perfect when I want to use the joycons. This doesn't work with US 8.5x11 inches paper. The difference with A4 (8.25x11.7) is too much. I found out the same way you did... You can cut off 3/4 inch along the long side of the paper to make it work (7.75x11) and get the same ratio as A4.

I made it in one go and used 100 GSM Executive Bond A4 size sheet, It turns out to be awesome. The design is very sturdy and handles my phone pretty well. Thanks mate!!

Just look at that ratio. This is what happens when everyday people try to do origami. I promise you, this video was pretty well done, and in actuality I've seen videos and even on paper diagrams that were much more unclear that took me forever to figure out. You just gotta understand that's a normal thing XD Also, it's very hard to guage ahead of time where people will have difficulty since it varies per person, so you are very unlikely to find an absolutely perfect instructional video. Be glad you don't have to slow the video down to 0.25 speed and stare at it 20x to figure out what the heck is going WHILE the video has terrible video quality.

No tape or staples or cutting or paper clips, just good old fashion origami. I even have one of the larger phones out right now and it holds it quite well for just paper. Great when you're in need for one and don't want to bother buying one.

Im not good at paper folding / Oragami, and I probably used the wrong type of paper, and my final result was crinkled and wonky, but it still worked well! No matter your skill set, you can still use this design for a really functional stand! Thank you for this tutorial :)
