If you are wanting to encourage beginners, you need to demonstrate good practice such as pressing seams consistently as you go, making seams consistent at one quarter inch, nesting seams properly to avoid big bumps in seams.

I really like the second block more. However, if this is to show beginners some help and suggestions, then the fabrics need to be pressed before cutting and sewing and the ironing on the diagonals is stretching the bias significantly and you are net cutting the pieces so they fit each round of sewing properly. No wonder us longarmers end up with such distorted quilts sometimes. Teach it correctly!
