Yes DB is necessary. Some organization may use SqlLite, Room or realm or other DB's. But f you know one of them, you can easily understand and integrate others.

Yes. Dependencies differ a bit depending on groovy or kotlin build gradle selection and not java. There is minor modification that you need if you select kotlin and dependency is in groovy

Need to change the "HH:mm:aa, dd/mm" to "HH:mm:aa, dd/MM" in ToDoListPage.kt. Lowercase "mm" is for minutes, uppercase "MM" is for months
