When this album came out after a long break, I felt betrayed. Where is old Manson? Where is the energy, the rage? Now 8 years later, I am mature enough to appreciate this album. Listening this album creates a utopia, an escape from reality, where I can actually forget about the world with it's mind-numbing activities and masks we have to wear, and just be alone with myself. Best album ever.
@cowboysdemarkusware9 жыл бұрын
+Snezhana Bavykina He wrote it during his divorce with his then wife and was going through a depression. Most of his vocals on this album were recorded while he was laying on his bed I think. To be honest this is my favorite album of MM because it's the album that shows him being vulnerable, sad, and he pours his heart out on it

I love the lyrics to all his music. They're not shallow. MM is very introspective and brilliant in his way of conveying his feelings and opinions through his music. What I wouldn't give to sit and speak with him for 30 minutes...

I'd love to have spoken with him just as he started his stage theatre show... With some singing, then 15 years later, then now and see the change unfolding. He is still under the thumb of them but he used to have a lot of creative control.

How do you use words to describe this? Above melody, beyond hypnotizing, undeniably gripping, strangely romantic...
@awake35213 жыл бұрын
It's a mixture of Alice in Wonderland, Lolita, Manson's divorce with his wife Dita, his romance with Evan Rachel Wood, and depression that he suffered throughout the time period that he created the album. "This is only a game" are lines from Lolita (the novel), and "I see my horror mirrored in your sundown of a blank stare" refer to Dita no longer loving or even recognizing who he was anymore. The "star" rushing in is Evan. Amazing song.

This is one of my favorite MM songs, definitely the best from this album. The lyrics are well written and full of references that tie the album's themes together, the vocals are gorgeous, the instrumental aspect is put together with a lot of care. In fact I think the actual music of the album was amazingly done, the lyrics just suffered in some songs. Of all of his albums this is probably the most over-looked, but one of the best in my opinion.

Yeah, it's quite different than earlier stuff, but I love this album. This album started the darker period for him (even though most of his stuff is dark to begin with). A majority of artists go through this where they start getting older and their sound changes a bit. Sound changed, tone didn't.

@demonbuttercupp That's actually a line from the novel Lollita, which MM is a fan of and has said influenced this album heavily (in fact the title Heart Shaped Glasses is derived from a poster for the film version, he himself has said that). Also the line "was invited to a beheading" has to do with another novel by the same author, titled Invitation to a Beheading. If you go to the site nachtkabarett, it goes into MM's work and influence more. Hope I could help!
