Until the stage of life is reached when you are forced to depend on more than just yourself for the daily activities of living. As a person in their 30s, impatience, disposable relationships, and hubris are the key traits of the inexperienced. When reaching our 50s we still have the desires, but not near the amount of energy, or good health. I loved this movie, and the book because of the superb perspective of each new country, which I feel represented the stages of maturity in a lifespan. My favorite message "God dwells in you, as you." I'm spending more time than ever being patient with myself & other people, appreciating the important people in my life, and making great pains to celebrate the smaller things that bring joy.

When I first watched this movie, I didn't know English at all. When I watched it for the first time, I cried for minutes even while watching Turkish, because it completely describes my life. I learned English years later, it made me cry again. I was and am absolutely David :(

I broke up with my fiancé and cancel the wedding. This movie helped me realize that… I was miserably happy… each of us didn’t grow from this relationship. Each of us didn’t give each other the nutrients to grow. I feel like the monster for ending it… but I had too.

@Deepak k David told her that they should just be miserable together so that they could one day be happy. They were so unhappy. Then, she visited Rome and discovered "The Ruins." This place that people pay to see. The Ruins have found a way to rebuild itself. Does it look like it did when it was first built? No. It has transformed itself after being destroyed be an enemy, but it rebuilt itself inside of itself. This is what she had to do. Let the relationship destroy her and rebuild herself anew, without David. Or, destroy apart of herself and rebuild herself anew. So, there's nothing wrong with being "destroyed." To ruin yourself is a gift, because it brings on new transformation.

Dear kaira after watching this scene I feel now it's time to say goodbye. We were so so close to each other but something happened, that night I thought next morning things(situation) will but it's didn't changed and our relation became messy, dirty, miserable. We both tried so badly to make things better but everything was already ruined. I loved you. But it mean to hold hand even the next person wants to fly free. This scene thought me I can love but I can't force you to love me. Last goodbye.....

@@Leo19rash in a very real way, she didn't. The real person never did, she left her Brazilian husband, married a woman who sadly passed away, now she's dating the ex partner of her late wife. Just 1 year after she died. She never really stopped her dating behavior. She keeps hurting people cause of her fear to commitment

odiliina o that's really interesting comment , I wonder if imperative of continuous love throughout the marriage as a concept is not grounded in reality and often times leaves people confused for not achieving a mythical state., Loved the movie though , I can see a person not being sure of their feelings and be in love multiple times for every one is unique and so is experience of love with them

Ruin is the road to transformation into poverty. I know well, it happened to many of my friends in the 80s. It's funny looking at this from my age now. I used to get lost in this kind of entertainment - with all of its decorative and intellectual splendor, but the moment you try to make it real, it crumbles into ugliness. As they say, butterfly wings are best enjoyed with the eyes, not with the fingers. I have to say, I am so glad I did not divorce. I would have missed out on everything real.
@thekingslady14 жыл бұрын
14598175 Great comment👍 If you want to see the real narcissism this movie portrays pick up the book....and I dare you to finish it. Also look up a NY Times article by Elizabeth Gilbert (the author of this book) titled "Confessions of a Seduction Addict" and hear the real selfish, self-centered, vapid, vacuous, narcissistic Gilbert speak!

I think you’re misunderstanding the message here... some people should be together, other shouldn’t. Trying to force something that doesn’t work anymore isn’t right and won’t take you anywhere, like swimming against the flow

I'm proud of you man, all the broken egg cartons here are doing numbers trying to justify their life choices to us or themselves, I dunno, but real life knows its a bitter mistake to chase pleasure even if it's somehow supposed to make you feel "whole"
@purest_evil Жыл бұрын
@Natalie Swann I could personally fear less from their choices so long as it's not to kill me but I'm gonna judge what I want to judge, throwing away a love life because you feel bored is stupid, it'd be smarter to work things out and try to have fun together, perhaps in other ways
