www.eattheweeds... Related to the common mulberry, the paper mulberry produces an exotic pompom like fruit if conditions are right. Invasive in most places its leaves are edible and its bark can be made into paper and cloth.

Hey Green Deane, I've been keeping an eye on the local paper mulberries ever since I saw this video. Today (06/08/11) as I was driving I saw some fruit on them. I collected a few, brought them home, re-watched this video to double check that I had the right thing, and then gave them a try. They are pretty tasty! Thanks for the great information. I look forward to your next video!

I loved the closeups. For some reason I find it hard to get a sense of depth on video. You did a really great job with the closeups and in the hand for visual reference at a distance. I am also very happy you ate one(or two) so we know how to eat just the fluffy bits. Great video and I love this history lessons and origin too. You continue to do us and mother nature a great service and get it gets better each time. Thank you so very much for the work that you do for us to enjoy and learn from.

similar to the strawberry tree. few people have ever seen a strawberry tree fuit. almost identical to this. They gro in southern cal. mulberry leaves are also some of the most nutritious on earth for livestock such as rabbits. u should look into MORINGA trees. most nutritious for humans and livestock, makes salad oil, water purifier, nuts, green beans, and leafy greens. u can buy thm on ebay and use as an indoor plant. moringa trees contain all thee amino acids which is rare. they build bodies.

I had one of these in my backyard, it was a fruitless paper mulberry. It was 50 years old, and it grows out in random directions and is insane looking. Mine had three different trees coming from the same place. It collapsed though and we lost it unfortunately. It shaded the entire yard. They grow insanely fast.

@veggiegrow7 It would be a great plant to do a video on, when I find some. They don't grow locally but if I can take a trip up north I will do one.

I know this was put out many long years ago. But I’m glad it’s hear to properly identify these trees. I HATE them. The home we bought 7 years ago has a few of these mature trees. They are in the side of our house that’s near the fence. So we don’t go over there and they do provide good shade over that side if the house. Well the way these things produce They are so invasive. Or whole property is just a huge root network of these trees constantly shooting up babies. Those home was build in 61 and those were probably planted then ornamentally. Well now they are a massive problem for us. We have a huge water leak and just trying to dig in that area is a nightmare, nothing but roots all varying in size and entangled with each other. I’m also hypothesizing they may be the reason for the busted water line. But can’t 100% be certain bc the pipes are original to the houses build. So we’ll soon find out, if we can ever get to the area, through so these damn roots. These trees are awful.

At about 4:45 in the background there is a plant/vine with green heart shaped leaves. I believe this is a vine I have had for several years, but have no idea what it is. In the fall the vine will produce "nuts". Brown and rough textured. Here in middle Ga we pick and store the nuts overwinter to make sure we have have a constant supply. This year I have only 1 vine and hope to get nuts this fall, because last year I neglected the vine due to a bad summer & no time. Any idea what the vine is ?
