Purslane goes very nicely in a soup especially with tomato in the broth and a few nice kidney beans and some carrot and celery.

I would do this all the time in Sydney. Begonia blossoms and leaves, tropaeolum flowers and leaves, pelargonium flowers, purslane...Foraged salads are the best. :)

Can't wait to see the new videos with your new camera! I live in central Louisiana and watch a lot of your videos. I found a hoard of Wild Onions on our property after watching your video on them. I fried them up with some butter.. it was great! Just want to say thanks and keep these great videos coming!

It would be very interesting eating a salad at your place. That turned out very pretty and I bet tasty. I'm learning a lot from you. I have that portalaca or purslane growing everywhere at my place. It gets into my pots by the hundreds and I had been pulling them out & tossing them like weeds. Now I'm eating them. It does have a nice lemony lettuce like flavor that I like. Thanks for all the botany lessons, I really enjoy them! Angie in AR

Purslane, I've seen that plant growing all over Las Vegas, and found out it was edible myself, but never knew the name. I normally call them "Red Octopus plant" because of the appearance, but I guess they've already been discovered. I've done a lot of exploring in the Mojave Desert, and I've tried to forage many plants, including datura by accident, as well as mosses and lichens. Not gonna lie, I may have acquired a taste for dusty, dry plant matter.

i hope you do more videos, yours are the best i've seen for actually identifying these plants. I hope you do one on Sunchokes/Jerusalem artchokes.

In eastern NC I don't think I've seen any of that stuff, I have dandelion and some plantain. I wish I had some more information on south eastern botany. Good thing about Carolina though is we have mountain, piedmont and coastal terrain.

Firstly let me just say I live your videos and am an aspiring forager and planning on doing some videos like this when I get better aquainted with wild foods. anyways i live in georgia and so I see a lot of the plants in your videos though i am still hunting purselane but I thin it would be really great if on your site where you go into detail about the plant and how to cook it you would have a section on how to store or preserve them for later. like as to what methods are best for long term storage. i know drying is good for alot of plants but some do not dry well at all like giant puffball mushrooms. thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work.

I just love every one of your videos my friend. Thank you for the serenity that comes with each of them. Also, I'd like to thank you for all the funny faces my friends get when I reach down, pluck something out of yard or field somewhere, pop it in my mouth, chew it, show it to them all chewed up, and then GULP. LOL It's fun to eat weeds, but it's more fun to watch people gag. HEHEHE

I did not know sword ferns had those. Now I have to find some and try them. The cactus even when older can still be tasty. What the natives used to do is cut the outer parts off. There is a slender sheet of meat right down the center that is tasty older or younger; A bit slimy though. Why not use tools more often? Humans are designed to use tools. Just look at our claws. Compared to other animals, or claws are pathetic. We are not great at anything without tools but can adapt to almost anything

Another awesome video Green Dean. The city issued me a violation notice cause my grass was over 18 inches. I was given 12 days to comply. The inspectors came back to check if I complied, which I did. They asked me, "so what do you do with your weeds?" I replied, "I eat them". I ate some plantains as proof. The inspectors seemed shocked and had no more questions. I think I got rid of them for good :P

I have a bush that has nut/pods that look similar to macadamia nut pods on my property in Georgia. I cut open one of the green pods to find it hollow with tiny kidney shaped green seeds inside. I have been searching the net for weeks trying to figure out what this thing is. We also have medium sized trees on the property that have the exact leaves but no pods.

How you been doing? Chase is back. He's been putting up some good ones last couple days. I'm waiting for the sun to rise so I can hang out the clothes........ I'm in E. Tenn. -slim picken far as weeds go. I think he's in Fla. I spent a couple month in the center of Ocala Forest when I was younger. Lots to eat there. It would be hard to starve in Fla....
