Tofu is truly the best protein. So much cheaper and way more versatile than any meat or substitute.

For me, per calorie, TVP is wayyyyyyy cheaper. Can't say I enjoy it more than tofu, but in my area it's several times cheaper for the amount of food you get. I'd probably end up using some soyrizo in this in place of the tofu because it's like $2~ for a pound here
@kateliness2 Жыл бұрын
@TheMaskedPikmin I totally get that! Definitely love TVP and other dehydrated proteins especially because they are shelf stable. But have to agree with OP because I think tofu is just THAT versatile! Sliced, shredded, scrambled, crumbled, tofu can do it all!

This method of shredding the tofu to make vegan beef is genius! looks so good. We don't really see "extra firm" tofu around here though, I think it would get too crumbly with regular/plain tofu.

The impossible ground meat is very good! Although the best way to be vegan is to limit processed foods, transitioning can be hard so I would try that. I use it to make Korean Bulgogi bowls. You can find premade sauces that are vegan friendly and cook it with the impossible ground meat. Then serve it over rice with cooked carrots, wilted spinach with garlic, and quick pickled cucumber. Add some gochujang for spice and it’s delicious! The impossible brand is the best alternative I’ve used. Their burgers are good too!

Does freezing the burritos have any affect on the tofu? Do they taste any different fresh versus frozen and reheated? I've done the fried tofu using freezer tofu before and I know that it changes the texture, but super Firm is already a brick as is, so not sure if freezing would do much.

Nope, since they've been shredded and baked and sauced up it won't affect the texture.

I love salty food, so I'm sure I would like these burritos, but damn! Do you realize how much sodium is in the bouillon and soy sauce? Ooof...
@TheeBurgerDude5 ай бұрын
You can use low sodium broth or soy sauce if you are concerned about that, but each burrito has about 500mg sodium. The original burritos I'm basing these off of, which are much smaller have 330mg.

So she doesn’t have a real onion “sensitivity”? Considering onion powder is concentrated dried onions…
@TheeBurgerDude Жыл бұрын
Lol thanks for assuming stuff! Raw onions are the worst. The more the onions have been cooked down the more the compounds that she’s sensitive to are neutralized. So onion powder, especially in small amounts is fine.

@@TheeBurgerDude wasn’t trying to make an assumption just following the science with food considering dehydrating something doesn’t “cook”away or truly neutralize any compound that’s inside onion as it isn’t hot enough to do so.
