Nice variety of finds. These dumps are like history lessons. Controlled and occupied are one and the same.

I used to take my kids to an old bottle dump for prospecting decades ago. We found brown glass CLOROX bottles with black rubber cork shaped stoppers, many medical, and vanilla extract bottles that used cork stoppers. Also whiskey bottles. We had to be careful because of broken glass, rusty tin cans, and various live snakes. It was a lot of fun.

@cynthiaswearingen10372 ай бұрын
@Travelling..Bottle..Digger I believe it's the same as Occupied Japan.

Ok, that's the impression I was getting when searching, but nothing concrete either way. I do believe you're probably correct though.

The pile of small sample liquor bottles are really cool. Love that old lighter. Nice Canada Dry hope it survives. Yes I believe your right on the time period Kevin. Like the Moosehead beer can. I just cut out the good panels and make a framed collage with them. Lots of nice old cans in that spot. Awesome compass Kevin ! Great eye ! I'd sure have fun in that dump spot. Cool Beans for sure ! Fantastic dig Kevin ! Really enjoyed seeing all those finds ! Cheers my friend !

Good morning Kevin. Looking at all those old abandoned dump piles you go to, almost makes you wish you had a time machine to go back in time to go behind people just as they are dumping it and find some mint condition treasures. Lot of those old tin cans can be worth some change today in better condition. Proud you kept that lighter. It can be restored back to working condition again. Thanks Kevin.

The lighter is extremely cool. Any thoughts on "Controlled Japan" ?
@jamesmarshalla85652 ай бұрын
You’d be surprised that those cans can clean up in better shape, try soaking them in lemon juice and water for a few hours and clean off with soap and toothbrush. Way to go on the awesome finds Kevin! Thanks again. James 😊

Yeah, I've done that. When the rust is bubbled up through the paint, it can't be saved.

Id g back and get that white rose motor oil tin! I found one exactly like it but the back totally rusted off. Still sold it for $20! They are crazy collectable. You'd Easily make 20-50$ off that white rose motor oil. Next time you're there grab it!

Hi Kevin, how do you clean your bottles? Do you tumble them?
@Travelling..Bottle..Digger2 ай бұрын
Hi, no, I just use a wire brush, paper towel, and toothbush. Oddly enough, I don't dig many "sick" bottles... those one that are all murky looking, so no tumbling needed.

Not sure if this will help but I did find Champion lighters from the 1950s saying "controlled Japan" I googled lighter then "controlled Japan" there were photos and comments from Reddit of people with them. Also Etsy 👍
@Travelling..Bottle..Digger2 ай бұрын
Yes, I believe I seen those. It has to be the same as "occupied Japan", but it's the first time I've heard of it

Nice lighter - likely "certified quality controlled Japan" circa 1950's/60's - I don't think controlled was ever used as a substitute for "Occupied"
