Eating Amazing Traditional Czech Food On a Holy Hill 🇨🇿

I have been told that Czech Republic is the most atheists country in the world for people not believing in God. In this video we go on a holy adventure to a place called Svatý Hostýn on the search for the answer: Why are Czechs the most atheists people in the world? Svatý Hostýn is one of the most famous Holy places in Czech. It is an important Marian place of pilgrimage. The pilgrimage comes from a legend that describes a miracle made by the Virgin Mary of how she appeared on the top of the hill, send the storm and lightening to burn nearby camp of war enemies. This place has history also known to be a place where religious people visit to worship God and see the journey of his life. While I was there I visited the restaurant for traditional Czech food and went to the markets. I came across the pastor and other people who gave me their opinion why they think the Czech people are atheist.

I know this is an older video, but the oplatki is ceremonial. You would break a piece of that on holidays with your family sharing each other's piece, in a place like that. So you break one piece, say your wife, son or daughter would break their piece, you eat the other person's piece hug and kiss them and give them best wishes for prosperity and good luck and tell them you love them. This is usually done on Xmas dinner among an entire family or on new years, and definitely Easter - or amongst strangers at religious sites like the place you're at or in the church. Love your videos just wanted to clarify why you don't like it, it's not a snack, it's symbolic as in breaking blessed bread with loved ones.

I am a big of fan of yours and have a very good recommendation for you.😁 I was exploring the northern region of ustí nad labem and came across this beautiful village near the border to Germany 🇩🇪. It’s called dolní Poustevna.😊 they have a great restaurant called chili’s 🌶, where you should definitely get the vepřova panenka.😋 There they also have good beer 🍺 and slivovice 😉. If you want to see the best dřevěnice, you should have a walk to horní poustevna. They also have slepice there🐓. You have not been in Krkonoše yet? You should really visit it in your future videos. Really beautifull mountains and nice hiking and skiing there. I have many nice memories since I was a kid and my kids even learned skiing there (we always stayed in Vrchlabí). I was raised in the Netherlands, but my grandparents (my mom is Czech) lived in Prague-Dejvice where I spent many holidays since the 70's. I love your videos and the way you adapt to Czech live and language. My favorit beer is Kozel and drink is Becherovka. Our local liqour store keeps it even specially in stock for me.

Hey there! I think we don't believe as much as other countries since our minds are bit of pesimictic. Don't get me wrong, we can be kind, we like to celebrate but as I can see, we tend to be cold to strangers. And I assume this gets well with being pesimistic or realistic. Many Czech people don't hope as much and don't like to put their believes into someone else - We rather work for our dreams and needs. That's probably thanks to our relationships in the past with other countries. So Czechs do not like to put their faith into something bigger, since theres no guarantee it will be fullfiled. We do it on own. Hope, it makes sense. XD

I think the main reason behind many people not believing are 1. High degree of scepticism 2. Well rounded education. The second point being the most influential. While there is difference between public schools and private schools, one can still get an excellent education in public schools. They aren't forgotten. Of course, there are many faults in the educational system, but in comparison to the rest of the world, I believe that Czechs put lot of importance on general knowledge. Something that isn't common in the western world. General knowledge and history education is not bad in CR. Until quite late age, pupils learn all subjects without having to choose only couple which they would expect to master. No, they can study it all and choose lot later. Knowledge of history and sciences, but also religion.. all put together created a country in which people aren't so quick to follow indoctrinated religion. It opens one mind. Knowledge is power. However that being said, I think Czechs aren't necessarily atheists but they are agnostics. Meaning they believe in something out there, but don't follow a religion.

Obecně se dá říci, že Morava má v rámci České republiky tradičně silnější průmyslovou základnu než Čechy (mimo Prahu), ale rozdíly jsou nuancované a závisí na konkrétních regionech a odvětvích. Morava: Jihomoravský kraj (Brno) se zaměřuje na strojírenství, IT, elektrotechniku a vinařství. Moravskoslezský kraj (Ostrava) je tradičním centrem těžkého průmyslu, hutnictví a těžby, i když se průmysl v posledních dekádách modernizoval směrem k automobilovému průmyslu a technologickým oborům. Olomoucký a Zlínský kraj jsou známé strojírenstvím, potravinářstvím a plastikářským průmyslem (Zlín má silnou tradici spojenou s firmou Baťa). Čechy (bez Prahy): Plzeňský kraj je důležitý díky strojírenství (Škoda Transportation), pivovarnictví (Plzeňský Prazdroj) a dalších průmyslových odvětví. Liberecký kraj se zaměřuje na sklářství, automobilový průmysl (Škoda Auto v Mladé Boleslavi), ale v menší míře ve srovnání s Moravou. Ústecký kraj má tradiční těžbu uhlí, chemický průmysl a energetiku, ale postupně dochází k restrukturalizaci průmyslu po útlumu těžby. Jihočeský kraj má více zemědělský a potravinářský charakter, ale i některé technologické a strojírenské podniky. Srovnání: Morava má výrazně silnou průmyslovou tradici, zejména v těžkém průmyslu a automobilovém sektoru. Čechy jsou více diverzifikované a méně závislé na průmyslu (kromě některých průmyslových center jako Plzeň nebo Mladá Boleslav). Sklářský průmysl a těžba v některých regionech ustoupily, zatímco Morava si udržuje silné průmyslové pozice. Pokud nepočítáme Prahu, lze říci, že Morava je více průmyslově orientovaná než Čechy.

As a former Slovak Christian, then atheist and now Muslim, it's funny that most people think that being an atheist means that they are somehow smart or pragmatic in their belief/non-belief. Just read Nietzche or some other existential philosophers who were "real" atheists and look deeply at the consequences of purely materialistic atheism, which inevitably leads to nihilism or meaningless life. Most Czechs from my experience just want to have good fun and drink beer. They don't really like to discuss God, whether their life is meaningful, or what happens after death. (generally speaking). The question everyone has to answer is, how did this world come to be? Was it just a random event triggered by nothing? Or was there an initial point of intelligence that caused our universe or any other universe to exist? Just being purely pragmatic and logical you can't bet on the randomness :) The ods are just too illogical to bet your life and afterlife on this. Religion is a subcategory of this realization once you come to the conclusion that there is this one thing out there that is literally in control of everything.

As a society we seem to be moving backwards, and I believe it's thanks to the lack of 'moral teachings'. Maybe on paper but in real life most Christian's have secularized and they don't believe in God's teachings anymore. Just look at how many Christian's live outside of marriage with another partner. Assalamualaikum, I agree with your comment. I saw another post in this comment section asking the question “why are people religious?” The easiest answer to this question is that religion, in its basic theology is the belief in a deity (in this case god) The notion of god is ingrained in us since birth, in that a higher power exists. Religion is just a moral compass created by god that guides us with our already existing notion that god exists. Now I’m not a Czech, but as you said, it seems Czechs (not all of them of course) want to take the easy/high life of drinking and chilling out (which exists as well all over the world) rather than obeying and surrendering to god in which they already have a recollection of whom exists. This then leads to nihilism again as you said.

The communist regime and even before it the nazi "protectorate" did much for uprooting the religion. Some people are truly atheist, some stick to the faith but not the religion, some agnostics, some christians but actually evangelics or hussites and other alternatives to catholic christianity (more in czech part of the republic, moravia and silesia are more traditional catholics), jews, and many people searching for answers in eastern faiths or having their own way. The Czech lands had some quarrels with the pope in the past (they burned our reformative priest) and the perception of the church as hypocritical and corrupt was deeply rooted, during Austrian-Hungarian empire the austrian nobility did what they could to recatolize the Czech kingdom but here live some stubborn people.

I think Czech republic is an atheist country because of our history of religious conflict. Religions were replaced very often. Basically veryone who was very religious has been killed because he didn't convert to the new state religion. We were pretty much catholic until the Hussite wars, then the Catholic Habsburgs came, than anti-catholic Masaryk and Beneš, and then the Communists killed all that was left of the religious people. People were pretty much scared of believing in any religion because they would have been persecuted by the new rulers with a different religion.

once I went to see a church ... I am 42 .believe in God? are you crazy? why? :) we all know the history and the story that Jesus was a young man who criticized the rich Jews ... nothing more nothing less, and it is again very relevant today

the reason is that we have always been slaves to great nations and they forced us to believe in their gods ;) and communism banned it completely .. the fascists had the inscription "god be with us" on their belts

I am curious, if you cleaned the ground. If you picked up the dropped cabbage and swiped it. In Slovak culture, we are taught to clean after ourselves. But some cultures think that it is upon the restaurant. How about you?
