Stayed a week in Heraklion and this was the best restaurant we have visited in all of Crete. Gourmet food with unique flavours and a wine list that has local beautiful wine. Fast service and a personalized help with the menu. It's a bit hard to find, but well worth it. A hidden gem. Don't confuse this AVLI with the other one called AVLI Project. This one is so delicious!

Hi Judy. Glad to agreed with us that this place is a trye gem when it comes to local food and wines. I love that they promote Cretan wines and they are very knowledgable when it comes to wine, so you can always get reccomended a perfect pairing for your meal :)

Excellent video, Stam. I'm almost tempted, after watching your videos, to go foraging for wild herbs, mushrooms and plant; but I won't - given the issues of poisoning myself or others! Love the hyacinth bulb dish (I admit - I thought it was baby onions)! Love the beauty and simplicity of Cretan food 🙂Tony p.s, I fb messaged you about advice for Cretan extra virgin olive oil. I bought 5 litres (Seba Garden brand) from the internet....can't wait to try it.

Thank you Tony! Yes, don't want you foraging any dangerous/poisonous plants :) I haven't tried Seba Garden yet, but it has received very good feedback, so let me know what you think of it.

Are gardoumakia similar to kokoretsi?

Hi Mary. Gardoumakia (also called Gardoumbakia or Gardoumbes) are also made using lamb (or goat) intenstines, like Kokoretsi. However, usually Gardoumakia do not have any ofal (or very few), are bite-sized and are cooked in the oven, over charcoal or even as a casserole dish (instead of being spit roasted like Kokoretsi).
