Modern day Gin is British, the original Gin was made in holland by a chemist called Dekuyper as a pick me up tonic and loads of it were commandeered by British soldiers in Belgium, so much so they all got drunk before battle, hence the term "Dutch courage" but the British added all sorts of botanicals to change the flavour to what we know today. When there was a problem with gin as you say, way back when, there were people trying to make the stuff at home (Bathtub Gin) and it was almost poisonous creating all sorts of health problems so it got the nickname "Mothers Ruin"

England has a lot of coastline, even today where I am from it is easy to pick muscles from the sea. It is inconceivable that they were not eaten from earliest man in England.

Builders tea, as a Brit, I always thought that it meant the tea you made for "Builders" (Workers/contractors) who come to your home to fix or build something. Also can be called "Army Standard Tea" 😎

Britain has always had a reputation for horrible food and bad taste, however fish and chips with a pint is still a good option

I don't mind Europeans or Asians criticizing British food. Different cultures, different tastes. But I do draw the line at criticism from Americans. It's a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. Pizza, hotdogs, burgers and deep fried chicken. Hardly the height of world cuisine.

Hate to be snarky, but "builder's tea" is stuff you can stand the spoon up in, not the underdone milky thing you seem to be drinking. Tea: in a pot, brewed for ten minutes. A teabag? Nah, that's a bit Costa Coffee-ish. (Ask for tea in Costa, you'll get this palid substitute).

@@taylort5672 Well a lot of the foods - like the nations of union peoples have become mixed and cross impregnated! So Yorkshire puds are made in Northern Ireland, Welsh lamb in England Scotch eggs in Wales etc as British! Its even taken in food from all over the World - Chicken masala is British not Indian its our own version of indian and its gorgeous but is eaten all over the British Isles!

You can always guarantee they have a cask marque though, meaning they serve real ale, and it has been stored properly so you won’t get an ‘off’ pint.
