Christmas can be a very scary, lonely and unsettling time for so many. Even more so for those affected by an eating disorder. Whether that be the for person suffering or the loved ones around them.
Here's a little video that I hope will help, discussing...
✅ Pre planning meals
✅ Knowing the schedule
✅ The positives of being open and communicating
✅ The importance of being in the moment
✅ Letting go of the mask
✅ Trying not to castophize
✅ Letting go of guilt
Also a few extra tips that may help, which I don't speak about in the video here...
✅ The importance of taking time out. It doesn't have to be Christmas for the whole day, you're allowed you time too. Whether that be going for a little walk, with a family or friend or on your own, Reading a chapter of your book, doing some craft work or simply switching off on your own and listening to some music or journal writing. You're allowed to have a little time to reset
✅ Doing a food plan ahead of the day. If you feel more comfortable with something else to eat aside from the trimmings, talk about this and allow it, it's a brave step. Or discuss what you would like to eat that's on offer ahead of the day.
✅ For someone who struggles with binge eating & bulimia, it's really important you make sure you don't go long periods of time without food, a snack can make all the difference when it comes to cravings
✅ Allowing yourself to know you may have a "wobble" or a "tricky spot" if you give yourself that permission and it happens you can say to yourself "OK, there you are, I was expecting you!" and trust me, you won't feel the impact of the wobble anywhere near as much, and heck, if you don't have the wobble you can say to yourself "that shows you ED!"
✅ Loved ones - it's hard I know, but trust me, keep remembering that your daughter, son, friend, sibling, Partner, is exactly that... The person you love and much more than an eating disorder sufferer. They need that.
