Me and my family eats better and healthier now from dumpster diving than when we wasn't diving. I couldn't afford the food we find. It has saved us so much money. So glad to see someone else showing how you use the food they find. Love your channel.

It has been a true blessing for me and my family. We also give a lot to a lady with chickens. Before she gives her chickens the food she lets about 5 of her neighors go through the food first. They all know where the food comes from. When she told me was doing that and the food was feeding her family and 5 other families I started crying. I had no idea I was helping so many people. I only need doing this for little over 3 years. Helping my family is wonderful but knowing we are helping 6 families to put food on their table makes it worth even more to keep diving.

Your meals look delicious and balanced. I don't dumpster dive, but I do always check the markdown shelves, coolers, and freezers inside my grocery store where I find great bargains on perfectly fine food. Videos like yours keep me inspired to not waste the food I have.

Tip keep the ends of your Bread use your Blender to make into Bread Crumbs then toast in the oven till dry and golden...use that to go into your Meatloaf or Meatballs or Breaded Chicken or Pork Chops...I save my Bread ends and put them in the freezer and take out as needed...also I use homemade Crackers to turn into Crackers Crumbs use your blender same as the breadcrumbs and store in a baggie...!

When you find a quantity of meat, consider cooking it with "lots of flavor" (spices, herbs, etc...) then freezing it in individual meal sized packs/baggies. If you look at a lot of foods we eat today like dinner salads, wraps of assorted types, egg accompaniments, stir fries, fired or baked veggies with meats, etc...They all have 1 to 6 ounces of well seasoned meat in them. I like to slow cook in a slow cooker/ crockpot which between the low cooking temp and steam infuse the meat with its surrounding flavors. Paprika and/ or smoked Paprika works its way into meats pretty well and doesn't change too much when frozen, and the list goes on. - Then when you get a salad mix, some veggies, some potatoes, or a shelf stable starch you've got well seasoned meat to add and make a whole meal. If lettuce and eggs weren't so expensive, you could supplement the seasoned meat with store bought. But explore different polenta or cooked cornmeal recipies not only from Mexico but also other parts of the world as an affordable calorie and meal filler as you grocery shop too.

All the meals you made looked delicious. You get so many healthy food items from the dumpster also which is great. I love fresh fruits especially pineapple but when you are on a budget you can’t usually fit fresh fruits and vegetables into that budget as often as you want. You were able to make a wide variety of meals also. Awesome video! I love how the kittens pose for their camera shots lol.

When you make bread pudding, you can thicken it up with more egg and/ or egg yolk as opposed a fattier milk too. Often a number of the "sweet spices" are added such as cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg, mace, cloves, and especially cardamom. The exact spices you add and the mix of spices will change the flavor profile. It is not uncommon to have rains, honest to goodness currents, snipped dried fruit like apricots, but also dried apples and other goodies in small sizes and well distributed. Bread pudding is sorta, kinda like soup in that youncan add a wide range of items and in doing so change the flavor up quite a bit. It can also be made in smaller quantities as it is basically bread soaked in egg custard with added stuff be it sugar, pieces of fruit, finely chopped nuts and seeds, spices, etc...

You are one smart girl, it all looks delicious. I raw pack my chicken but I started browning my beef chunks and adding watered down broth to the jar and I am liking it better. My raw pack beef jars came out kind of empty like your and they won't keep long if not full. I experiment like you. Last time I added cut up, peeled carrots and potatoes to the beef and broth to stretch it out and that was good too.

So many nice meals , very good at thinking out a meal plan.. on the bread pudding I think I would have used the rye bread for stuffing and subbed some other bread for pudding, but it's a thing you can make to clean up odds and ends up fruits from the fridge , even a dab of coconut and pineapple, it's just so easy to put most anything in it. Did Gus see the doctor about his tummy issues?? I hope he is feeling better. ❤️
@DumpsterCam
@DumpsterCam Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I would definitely sub the rye next time, but I still liked it! He sees the vet in February 13, that's as soon as they could get him in, but thankfully he hasn't been having his tummy issues for the past few days 🤞☺️

It's really the initial courage that you have to build up! Maybe just drive by the store you want to check a few days before you even get out to check, I would also recommend going when the store is closed while first starting. If you have someone that would be willing to go with you even to just drive the car that helps a ton! Also don't be afraid to travel a bit, none of the stores I dive at are in my city

@DumpsterCam
@DumpsterCam Жыл бұрын
I just followed the safety tested recipe. Sliced mushrooms, soaked in cold water for 10 minutes, washed and boiled for 5 minutes. Put in jars and filled with hot water then canned for 45 minutes at 10 pounds of pressure. I generally don't add any salt if it's optional when I'm canning things

I've recently started diving, and I've been sticking to mostly nonperishables. I've pulled Lunchables and plan on using the nonperishable stuff but steered away from the meats and dairy due to the date and the unknown cold chain status. How do you know the meat is safe besides the date? I'm nervous about the weather being a little warmer, then cooling down again in the same 24 hours, as it has here in NW FL. Is there a trick besides knowing when the stuff is tossed?

@DumpsterCam

I have a pressure canner that is used to can various things. Just have to make sure to only follow safety tested and approved recipes. I use the instruction and recipe book that came with my canner when I purchased it. The meat is quite easy, but once in the canner it takes a little time, watching and waiting.
