My mother was from Alabama. She made white potato pie. It was equally as good as sweet potatoe pie, just different. Don't know if she used a specific white potato. Had an African friend who loved it and asked her to make it whenever they visited from out of state.

It doesn't seem like it should work but it really does. In college I did a study abroad in France and even though they don't celebrate Thanksgiving one of the host families made dinner for us and they made us sweet potatoes using white potatoes. They added cinnamon and sugar and surprisingly it worked.

As a teen my grandma made exactly this “ice potato pie” but it taste EXACTLY like HER famous sweet potato pies. (No lemon flavors). I asked her why the “ice potatoes “. She simply says she ran out of sweet potatoes. She shrugged. & walked away. The same woman who told he she did NOT know how to make sweet potato pie. Said she “just makes it”.
