Another great tutorial, sparking my interest in contrast paints even more. They do seem to provide a nice variety of adding subtle hues. Speaking of which: For fur, i highly recommend adding a tint of blue similar to the fangs and teeth to the darker parts, where it is fading into grey. As seen in real life wolf fur. Really adds some visual interest to the model, contrasting with the yellow-ish brown tones, without being overwhelming.

Hi Juan, this is very beginner question but when you say to thin something down, e.g. to a glaze consistency, is that usually thinning the paint with water or with some sort of medium? I know sometimes it's definitely medium like you said for white in this video but for the average paint is water fine? Cheers!
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures3 жыл бұрын
If nothing is said and clearly marked in the graphics, then it's water. I actually used water for the white myself, BUT some people might find it hard, that's why I suggest medium just in case.

Hi Juan - a little off topic. Call me slow, this morning I have just 'discovered' about AP Speedpaint via couple of KZbin reviews. However, of all the hobby content makers I would value your opinion of them most. If you are not already intending to do a video about Speedpaint, could I please encourage you to do so. Thanks.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures3 жыл бұрын
Sorry but since AP haven't even considered me for a review even if I'm the most prolific Content Creator with that style of paints, I'm not going to bother buying them, ship them and deal with customs for a product and brand that is very hard to find in Spain and not everyone can get. That's being said and in all fairness, they look very good and seem to be a 1 to 1 copy of the Citadel range so I feel they can be a great substitute if you are in a budget. I just feel it's a missed opportunity that instead of coming with their own colour selection, they instead did what they always do and blatantly copied Citadel again (again, this is just a supposition based on the few paints we've seen so far, I might and hope I'm wrong) If you want to see a review which I would be happy to do, the best thing you can do is actually contact AP and tell them to send me a sample and why. Thanks 😘
@chrissteadman46143 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to answer so fully Juan. I kinda expected that this might be your answer. I will, today, contact AP and suggest that they send you some samples. BTW the two reviews I watched this morning both mentioned that Speedpaint applies differently to Contrast, appearing to settle more evenly with less streaking. Update- I've sent them an email and added a comment to one of their Speedpaint videos.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😘 As for the reviews, they do look promising, BUT I never trust a review that I haven't made myself 🤣 As for the less streaking.... I never had any issues with that so it's hard to judge
@njkf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Juan, now that The Army Painter will come out with Speedpaint in the future, will you ever use those paints in your tutorials or only stick to Citadel?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures3 жыл бұрын
Only Citadel as I do for almost all my videos. I prefer to stick with paints that EVERYONE can get easily. I might get a few for myself but that's it.
@njkf3 жыл бұрын
My guess will be that at some point, Speedpaint will be available far and wide and probably cheaper than contrast paints
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures3 жыл бұрын
That's still not to my concern. For example I have no shops in a 400 km radius that even stock anything made by Army Painter. Yes I can order online, but I still prefer to make my videos as easy to follow and recreate as possible and that means using the paint range that is most easy to get across the planet. As for price, I honestly think it's meaningless if you think how long paint lasts.
