Buy a lovejoy from tractor supply. They come in two pieces with different size holes with standard gear so they can be mated. look it up

Long Shaft > short shaft, I dont see the problem you had an easy fix to make it work.

Yes i could have used the bracket but i didn't like the bracket that's why i bought this motor because it was supposed to be a short shaft i already had a long shaft and wanted to get away from it and the bracket because it looked crappy

Those jon boats looks silly anyways. I think it doesn't do much harm in estetics to have a longer shaft, women likes them better. You should always prefer bigger engine. By the way do they still work after 6 years?

The reason im interested in these motors is that the lawn mower is working like 20 years with next to zero maintenance, and I calculated that if you put lawnmower engine to outboard it should pretty much be the same. Low/easy maintenance. Traditional outboards have lots of parts that can go wrong. I can buy a 7hp Hangkai for 400$ delivered.

Yes this motor was still going a few months ago when I sold it to a friend of mine last I knew it was still going

I bought the Hangkai. It is quite loud at half throttle. It has nice idling and trolling speed. I think you shouldnt pay more than 400$. The motor is very basic and The leg has flimsy swiitches and levers. I think for the money I paid is good motor. Seems to be relatively easy to maintain. Very smoky and i didn't find any tuning screws for Air Fuel ratio

I was very happy with the reliability of this setup i ran it for years and it still worked great when i pulled it off and put it up in storage the only thing i didn't like is it was slow one person and a small boat it would move alright but not with 2

dont have salt water where i am at,would probably be the same as any other outboard

been thinking the same thing. air cooled so you dont have to worry about corrosion in the cooling system. just have to worry about surface salt exposure. a good WD40 bath before and after should help it do just fine.

The transom mount was fine the motor was just a long shaft

What is the status on this? Were you able to get a short shaft motor? I'm interested in this but would almost certainly need a short shaft as well. I'll have to search around and see if I can find some more info and video of one being used.

i have not been able to find one of these in a short shaft as of right now i have been thinking about the mud skipper surface drive it is a short shaft just no reverse which does not matter to me and i like mud skipper products might check it out for your self

Mud Skipper sure does have a god awful web site... I will not waste my time on a site like they have... they need to make it easier to navigate and see things instead of over half of it being menu.. they should show the merchandise.

I want a motor a 6hp air cooled 4 stroke off of amazon but i heard where if you lay them horizontally when in the car trunk they will leak gas or oil. Yet again i heard on youtube that you can lay them on one particular sid. My question is does anyone have real experience in this? It's one of those"lawnmower" type motors. There is no true industry standard for short/long shaft. Shafts on small outboards can be 15", 20" 24"...verify LENGTH.

yes there is thats why if you go to a marina and buy a new small hp motor they ask you if it is short or long shaft and if you dont know they tell you to measure the transom of the boat this motor was long shaft

no everything works great on these motors other than being long shaft you cant run it in shallower water like a short shaft thats why the boat in this video with the mud skipper version of this motor had a transom bracket to raise the motor up and make it sit shallower in the water
