This video and the others on this loco will be very useful for anyone that wants to revisit/re-do previous weathering attempts that they’re no longer happy with so its worth doing just for that!

Absolutely. Its a bit daunting weathering a brand new model, so practice on old or damaged rolling stock first

Nice one, man. I understand some of the comments from people who believe this all to be a pointless investment of time and money, but I disagree because this is what model railways should be all about. :)

The transformation, just in primer is impressive. It reminds me of the 08 based at Locomotion in Shildon.

Thank you. I was a bit worried that even in primer it would look a bit scrappy still. I'm happy so far

Well, congratulations! You have basically made a coat of prime that makes this body look like Devious Diesel from Thomas the Tank Engine in this video.

Have you tried "Mr. Muscle" oven cleaner? Put the body in a self seal bag, spray over the whole model, squeeze out the air and seal. Leave for an hour, remove and wash clean with an old tooth brush under cold water. Thick paint, 3 coats or more, may need a second go.

"it's a challenge" "It's fun" This is exactly why model Railways are important! Also the emerging sub community of "loco restomoders" is becoming more prolific! We should attempt to create a group where we can gather and help each other with techniques etc for taking older, damaged or broken model locos and Restoring them to a modern standard using DIY techniques and readily available affordable spare parts.

Thank you. I'm just trying to give the rolling stock a new lease of life. But above all, it is great fun and i appreciate the positivist from most people

@@BuntersYard that's just it mate it doesn't always need to be about profit! Sometimes it's just nice to get an old cheap lock and see how far you can take it, how good you can make it run!

@@BuntersYard My point exactly! One of my favourite parts in the hobby is taking old stuff nobody wants anymore and give it a new life. Loads of fun!

I like the breakdown of the project into sections, nice to watch with a mug of tea. Yes, it is a project that is not viable and that is what makes it so good! to impart a bit of knowledge is spot on. I've been toying with painting a B12 loco, put together from spares/repairs from eBay, BR experimental blue, and was wondering if an undercoat was necessary and what colour to use- now I know.

I was watching and thought I would chicken out and stick with overall black like when new as the coupling Rods are red and no need for wasp stripes ,as for doing the series in parts ,I like ones where you can settle down and watch with a cuppa personality that’s what I would like ,all the best ,Mark

Fair comment. The couplings rods have been painted to so will need re-painting. I like it in black to, so the thought did cross my mind too. I’m planning to upload a full version at the end of the build as I know that some people are happy to watch longer videos on KZbin. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comments

Total noob here. Why not just submerge the whole body in IPA to remove the old paint? Would that cause damage or start melting the plastic or something like that?
