Shaun that aluminum 1885 Morgan Dollar is in all probability a UNLISTED PATTERN COIN. Suggest the grading services check the 1885 Morgan Dollar DIES used to strike Judd- 1749 as that,if memory serves me correctly, was unique to the pattern and trial pieces! In my heyday I had collected over 90% of all the aluminum issue Standard silver issues and quite a few others! If I had known about that coin 45 years ago I would have owned it as anything Aluminum struck in the 1870 through 1880's was extremely rare! I had been lucky enough to acquire most of my specimens from a dear friend and dealer Lester Merkin. Unfortunately I wasn't into errors big time at the time as he had a early Lincoln cent brocade that had been hammered at least 10 times and the copper had wrapped around the die making it about 1/3 " thick and he showed me that the tea cup looking coin would actually float in a bowl of water. I haven't seen that coin in over 4 decades!

How or who would I call if I cannot figure a coin out . I have 14 1982D wt. 3.1 that im having a hard time small and large I've gone to 3 local coin shops one pick out 2 that he thought was the small date ,the other picked 3 different ones who can I go to please help

1982 small date and Large date are easy to spot ive been having small dates before they were considered small dates but i have videos to enlighten those who lack knowledge and wisdom..

Seems to me if the person that did it intentionally is long past alive maybe that persons history makes it worth asking price. If someone did it last year barely worth the face value. Then all the possibilities in between follow that track. Was there ever a person known for doing such things back 50 years ago??
