Both of these Incredible Musicians have few peers on their respective Instruments! Weber is sounding particularly Playful at times on this! McCandless?!!! What can be said? I had the great Pleasure, and Honor to play and record with Paul in the late 80's for Windham Hill Records! Not only was he Beyond being Bad-Ass! - He was also a Gentleman, and Extremely patient with my Musical shortcomings! (I was, maybe - 26 at the time, and It was my compositions we were recording). I also was introduced to Eberhard Weber after a Jan Garbarek gig in San Francisco...a Gentle, Profoundly Deep and Humble Man, who was touring with his Painter Wife -Maja at the time. They stayed in touch through the mail. Just Amazing Beings we seldom see these days! Weber suffered a debilitating Stroke a few years ago. Send him Good Energy. - a link to my recording with McCandless: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5faYpSdqc6HntU

Thanks for your fascinating comments. I used to listen to Weber when I was a modern dancer back in the ‘80’s. This piece really takes me back to those days.

@@Skallalennart My understanding is that it was made by a luthier.
@Skallalennart4 жыл бұрын
@@bucketofbarnacles In an interview by a german magazine Weber explains that it was build by a luthier following his instructions. So yes, he didn`t do it himself. But he designed it together with the luthier. The important point is the distinct sound though. It is incommensurable to anything else in that range of instruments and that`s what i was emphasizing in my previous comment. much love.

some jaco like tricks after 4:45 up to 7min mark; otherwise, very weber. good duo improvisation. two jazz musicians who are also linked to classical music, aesthetically at least. i tend to think of them as fellow travellers with ralph towner. perhaps surprisingly McCandless did a record at this time that also featured lyle mays but it was more like a forgettable instrumental pop album. a world away from their 'later than evening' effort with weber.

No, I'm looking for the far far better bass solo version.
@SWH20122 жыл бұрын
Why far, far better? This is brilliant as well, just different than solo bass. I believe a live solo version is available on Weber's latest ECM album, released last year, which is a solo concert in Avignon in the 90s after the release of the studio solo album Pendulum.
@trespasser1212 жыл бұрын
@@SWH2012 Thanks, I found the version I was looking for on Spotify. For some reason it's no longer on YT. It's probably a matter of taste, but I don't think I'm the only one who finds some of the wind instruments harsh and unpleasant to the ear. Perhaps if I could bare listening to it, I would appreciate the virtuosity.
