Where’s is your latex gloves? I bought a pedal wrench, and I still had a grind it down to make it thin enough for some of the bikes. I have a 52t crank on my new Ripcurrent and I’m changing it to a 58t

Hi Richard, thanks for the vid. Unrelated question. Since you have both trikes, I'd like to ask you a favor. I'm thinking of replacing my XP Trike with a Mooncool TK-1. Could you tell me if the battery from the Lectric will fit the Mooncool? Specs appear to be the same but I don't know about the connection. I would prefer to keep my spare from the XP instead of buying a new spare from Mooncool. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

Hey Gary, I just looked. The Lectric battery is shorter and slightly different design. The connections look the same, but the tabs that lock onto the bracket are different sizes. The lectric battery could not slide down far enough to make the connection. It may be possible to make it work somehow, but as is its not a good fit.

@@EbikeReviews Darn!! Thanks so much Richard for doing the check. I was hoping, but so hard to tell unless you have access to both trikes. You're a good man. Thanks for your help and please keep up the good work.

My I ask you a question. Why did you need to take both peddles off?. I would have just taken the crank peddle side off. I'm no expert. I'm fed up with this ghost pedalling, I have a Cyrusher Ovia & for me, it spoils the ride experience. Thanks for sharing your video with us.❤

It could be because he bought a complete crankset and intends to replace the entire unit. In my opinion, to address those pedaling issues, we might need to adjust the tooth ratio. Upgrading to a larger teeth chainring or a smaller teeth freewheel should work effectively

When you ghost pedal, does it save battery power?

Even with 8 soeed Shimano, i could use taller gearing on Okai EB50. Will tackle this, after i upgrade to hydraulic brakes, another weakness on an 82 pound tank.
@dezfitz626 ай бұрын
Yep after changing both front and rear gearing out to 11 speeds and bigger gears, I went out to full hydraulic 4 piston brakes, but was annoyed at the extra cost of power levers for electric which made them twice as expensive. I got round this by managing to use my original levers with new 4pot calipers after a bit of pipe blending. Also went bigger rotors front and back ,180 mill to 203. (Or maybe even bigger on front?) Defo recommended for these higher weight and speed monsters.

I have the AIPAS A6 cargo bike, which is about the same thing as the Elctric expedition. I was going to swap out , for the 58 tooth. One of the additional things I have heard, was to replace the rear freewheel, with an 11-34 tooth. You get that big gear for those uphill battles when you really need it, or it would really help if your battery dies out and you need to pedal home. I'm going to start with the front first though.
@dezfitz626 ай бұрын
I put a 11-36 on the back (from 14 /28 original and the front was 52 which I changed to 58. My crank was fixed so i had to buy a new crank which gave me a cheaper way of using different tooth counts. Works great at stopping the ghost pedalling but made 1st pretty hard still even with the change to 36 from 28 teeth. My solution to this is to add another smaller crank gear at the front ie multi gears like a mountain bike. Manufactures are charging big bucks for these bikes and not really giving value for money. My bike is now a lot closer to the perfection i wished had come out of the box. But I guess you have to spend to get it up to your own specs.

I have the exact same problem with my recently purchased Eahora Juliet; a powerful 1000W 20 X 4 fat tire ebike that starts ghost pedaling in the highest gear when over 50% power. I am about to buy a larger chainring to replace the 48 teeth original but I know if I move up to a 52 teeth I will still experience ghost pedaling when above 60% power. I will be going with 58 teeth to increase my gearing from 48 / 14 X 23 = 79 inches to 58 / 14 X 23 = 95 inches which should not start ghost pedaling until I am above 75% power. Eventually I will replace the 7 speed freewheel from 14-28T to 11-32T giving me 58 / 11 X 23 = 121 inches which should eliminate ghost pedaling even at 100% power.

All the factories know this is a problem, why should we have to pay to fit it? It’s not like it’s costing them more money to add this front ring, they should be including it as standard equipment. 🤨
@ericcontois-lh9up7 ай бұрын
It’s not a mistake or fault of the factory’s. It’s to adhere with the Class 2 ebike qualification laws. When the law defines Class 2 e-bikes as 20mph maximum throttled, pedaled, or assisted, the manufacturer gears them to ghost pedal at 20mph or above.

I have an Emojo Bison Pro and starting about 15 MPH in PAS 3 and 7 gear I'm ghost pedaling. What do you think of adding a larger crank and what size?
@EbikeReviews7 ай бұрын
I no longer have the Bison Pro, so first look and make sure there is clearance so the bigger crank does not hit the frame. I don't know the size of the crank now, you can count the teeth. But a 52 tooth should allow you to pedal up to 20mph with no or almost no ghost pedaling.
@joeberginc74154 ай бұрын
56t with 11-28 freewheel gets you pedalling nicely at 35mph plus you can start using the other 6 gears.

Hello, would a jump from a 38t chainring to a 52t be too large? Do you think I will need a longer chain for this upgrade?
@EbikeReviews8 ай бұрын
I haven't tried it but I wouldn't say its too large. Your chain will likely be fine, there is a lot of extra chain being held by the derailleur. One thig is for sure, you will notice a big difference.

@@EbikeReviews awesome new to ebikes. So this hack is wonderful. Idk why ebikes cheap out in this department
@dezfitz626 ай бұрын
Yeah, big jump but I went from 52 to 58, had to use two chains for extra links. Maybe consider putting multiple crank wheels on front if u can or change back freewheel, loads of options out to 11 speed( strange not 12 available). And 11to 36teeth choices. Make sure it's a rotary freewheel which seems to be what these electric bike hubs have to be.
@centralcoastcamper96318 ай бұрын
Its a compromise for sure on what gearing an e bike should have for pedal mode. Flat landscapes could use higher gearing and combination hills and flat land my be fine with factory gear clusters.

Another upgrade you msy wish to explore is degreasing that chain and using wax vs grease. Its 100% cleaner.

Yes you are correct, I added bigger first, more cogs (out to 11 speed) and also have bolted another smaller cog on front crank I.e. 44teeth and 58 teeth. So I get more range of top and bottom gears. I have seen a few manufactures adding these combos now, not sure why they went to a single gear crank in the first place, saving a few quid I guess. Not impressed my self at the price they charge anyways...
