I lived in Japan for 3 years and having Nigerian heritage, it was easy for me to bow to Japanese locals.Of course they found it intriguing cos they wouldn't believe an American would bow.So I ld explain to them that I was taught to go all the way down when greeting elders and to show respect for anyone higher than me in any way...rank,postion or age.I think it earned me a lot of Japanese friends.
