Just heard the sad news of John Bird's passing and I had to come here and listen to this. Brilliant, brilliant satire the like of which we rarely see now, possibly because our politicians and business leaders are so ludicrous we only have to let them speak to see how ridiculous they are. If anyone hasn't heard John Bird alongside Stephen Fry in Absolute Power (radio, not the TV version), dig it out.

4:45 'Hang on, I've seen him somewhere before. It must have been at the, at the erm, barbeque'. OMG I was listening to this while driving and only just managed to pull over. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard.

Satire of a kind we never hear any more. Biting, perceptive, humorous and incredibly lifelike. These dialogues are priceless reminders of what has been lost. Where is 'The Frost Report', 'Spitting Image' or 'Not the Nine O'Clock News'? Supplanted by anodyne, innocuous, safe comedy that leaves the incompetent, faceless and guilty politicians to blunder along, untramelled by public and witty criticism.

The audience is just great in this one. Bird and Fortune were probably close to laughing themselves.

It's 2019----currently, and you can keep changing the 'Home Secretarys' name, but the prison situation never changes---except, worse.
