That maneuver is called a Chandelle. Standard Commercial Qualification maneuver. Nicely done

Im not wanting to fall out with you but this manoeuvre is a wing over. With a chandelle your exit height is higher than your entry height with the aircraft changing its heading by approximately 180 degrees after completing a simple climbing turn, in a wing over your entry height and exit height are the same with the aircraft changing its heading by approximately 180 degrees. Whatever people think it was it was nicely done.

So long as you keep the rotor system close to one G load, you can perform anything but inverted flight. Helicopters do not like high speed flight due to the tendency of the retreating blades to stall.

The minimum load factor boundary of the maneuver envelope for a helicopter is more restrictive than that of the fixed wing aircraft. The primary reason for this is that control is directly related to the load factor. At zero G, the pilot of the teetering-rotor helicopter has no cyclic control effectiveness, while loss of cyclic control effectiveness occurs at some negative G value for helicopters with flapping-hinge offset. To avoid loss of control the Nz envelope is established at some margin above the value where loss of control would occur. Approximate values for the lower load factor limit for a helicopter is somewhere between -1 and +0.5. Further minimum load factor limits can arise from aircraft systems (i.e., oil system, fuel system, gps mounts, etc.) which are not designed for negative load factor. I believe the H145 is based upon the original type certificate, so a little digging uncovers the (US) FAR at the time-- "The rotorcraft must be designed for-- (a) A positive limit maneuvering load factor of 3.5 and a negative limit maneuvering load factor of 1.0; or (b) Any lesser positive limit maneuvering load factor not less than 2.0, and lesser negative limit maneuvering load factor not less than 0.5, whose probability of being exceeded is shown by analysis and flight test to be extremely remote." not sure what the corresponding icao reg stated back then... But overall, you could probably negative G this chopper a bit, would spray oil, but you could land.

It can only do that when to rotor stops and acts like a wing .They use the jet for propulsion when making turns like this then turn the rotor back on for normal flight.Amazing machine.

Actually, It is rotating, the propellers are spinning so fast that the cameras frame speed and the blades speed match so it looks like an illusion on the camera. Just an illusion.

The show seems to happen over their permanent base, so yes they are very familiar with the area... They use this kind of path to bleed the speed from their flight back from moutains tops :) Almost all, if not all, are ex military pilots :P
