I remember being a part of a “car meet” community on 360. I was a co host, and we had another co host who was a modder, he’d remove everyone’s weapons as soon as they joined the lobby to stop griefing, and if anyone was toxic they’d get booted offline and black listed. He’d also drop 10 million on the winner of the “car show”…. He was literally the only modder I’ve met who never once used it to be toxic to other players.

Can't lie I'm kinda with you on this one. I like the style of the video but it would've been nice to have the script reviewed by a technical person. Having no experience with the internals of GTA Online specifically, but 10+ years with software development, I can spot 5 easy corrections. Most notable is that a "DNS Exploit" is a sort-of abuse of the term "exploit". More like, the multiplayer system was built super poorly. Seems like data is loaded from R* servers using HTTP or some other protocol that doesn't offer validation of the server's identity + associated encryption. This makes a MitM attack super straightforward. No modifications needed to be done on the client (console) side at all, just sniff packets using a managed switch, construct your own HTTP or custom server, stand up a custom DNS server with a record associating the game server to the custom game server, and point the console to that DNS server. Basically there is no patching or reverse engineering done of the game code itself at all, just some pretty straightforward network traffic analysis and reconstruction. Also the assertion that there was "very little security" on Xbox 360 / PS3 generation of consoles is totally false. It is true that the security mechanisms were broken in some ways over time, but there were heavy efforts from MSFT / Sony to avoid modified/unsigned code from being able to run, for various reasons, like enforcement of region locking and DRM. Modern Vintage Gamer's videos offer some deeper technical insight on this topic.

god DAMN, that christmas with DNS codes was the best christmas in 15 years, in hindsight, that really ruined a 11 year+ spanning game. I used them, some random kid told me to enter some numbers and i got tons of money and rp, eventually they took the money but they didn’t take everything you bought with it, also they docked you from like level 5000 to level 250 which… is still way above max level, they also made you invincible when you had the dns code activated
