I guess im a bit of a show off, so I like the international version more with the added (or rather not removed) chords and the fast arpeggio at the end. But i do like the optional slurs and trills, really lets you tailor the piece more if youre new to playing in a more improvisational baroque style. I dig it.

I played this when I was younger. Reviewing and relearning this will further my recovery from a stroke. Thank you for your always welcome and useful offerings.

I'm currently learning the classic international edition, but maybe I'll switch over to this version 🤔

The International is a good edition as well-that’s how I learned it. It’s cool to see the differences between this more recent one and to note the differences in some of the pitches, markings, etc!

A beautiful piece, and on a truly beautiful instrument. I'm not a double bass player myself. But I so wish I could be. Double bass caught my attention a while back, out of literally nowhere really. Though I never would have guessed the instrument that would one day truly call to me would be one so absolutely massive, heavy, and sadly so impractical. Ha, we just never know. Maybe chance will find a way, and it will make complete sense to learn to play. meanwhile I'll continue to listen to such wonderful music from you and others in the double bass community. And it's so cool to see growing interest in this still, in my opinion, so overlooked amazing instrument.

You make those Perpetuals sound really nice. I just ordered a set after your video on them. Also thanks for interviewing my classical teacher Dr. Barket!

That’s great to hear! I’ve been digging the Perpetuals, and they’ve even settled in a bit more since filming this video. I’m looking forward to trying them out on a gig sometime soon. Great to hear that you’re studying with James Barket-he’s awesome!

@@doublebasshq yeah he is! I study with him and Marc Miller (jazz bass) at KSU. I’m doing a jazz performance degree after being a professional tuba player for 20 years. (I’m actually an Eastman artist, I’d love to talk to you at some point about their basses). Keep us updated about those strings too!

Lovely, I just started on the first movement and have got that one down pretty good. Not sure if I should dive into the second just yet...

Excellent. My former teacher Pierre Hellouin made the same job long time ago with a very nice harspichord part in A. Editions Leduc, Paris

I can send it to you if you like! It’s just MIDI harpsichord from my DAW.

Nice!, I will definitely add some of these "decorations" to the version I know! I'm currently working on this piece (1st and 2nd movement) for the Texas all-state solo competition. I'm just struggling a little bit with these parts: 3:10 & 3:35. Any fingerings ideas?
@doublebasshq3 жыл бұрын
For the 3:10 area, I keep it in the neck block region, starting on 1 for the C# and then crossing over to the D string. For the 3:35 part, I do the 16ths on the G string and then cross over to the D string on the Bb, and then I stay in the neck block area. I hope that makes sense-thanks for watching!
