ECDIS + VirtualSailor NG (Basic NMEA COM/IP Demo)

WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS INFORMATION FOR REAL LIFE NAVIGATION. THIS IS A SIMULATION AND NOT THE REALITY!
A demo of nav setup at home. The only sentence used in this one is GPRMC, but with the newest update there should also be GPZDA, GPHDT, GPROT, GPVHW, GPMWV and GPDPT. This also works with OpenCPN and any other navigation software which has a NMEA interface. In the future this will be used for proper Nautis Home navigation.

Good question... I only know of navigation like ECDIS and/or OpenSeaMap.

What exact kind of cables do you use between the computers? From VSNG, is it usb with serial female to male serial with usb -> ECDIS PC? Can you provide a link to a page whit this cables? Amazon or something similar?

Its all emulated, this is running wireless! The setup is: VSNG sends NMEA data via TCP/IP -> my laptop reads this data via TCP/IP and provides this data for ECDIS via a virtual com port. Another way would be to convert from IP to serial/com on the main pc and send the data via RS422 to the laptop with a cable. This is way more expensive tho and doesnt make sense when you can do it wireless!
