Thank you for the video - I have a question for anyone here. I am starting nursing and what is the difference between av total (3rd) degree block and a heart attack on the ECG ?

Congratulations on starting nursing is an exciting journey!! A third-degree AV block, or complete heart block, is where the signal between the heart’s upper and lower chambers is totally blocked, causing the atria and ventricles to beat independently. The ECG shows normal P waves that are not associated with QRS complexes, which appear at a regular but slower rate due to secondary pacemakers in the ventricles. In contrast, a heart attack, or myocardial infarction, occurs when a blockage in the coronary arteries reduces blood flow to the heart, damaging the muscle. The ECG for a heart attack might show elevation or depression in the ST segment, inversion in the T wave, or new Q waves, indicating areas of damage. These two conditions look very different on an ECG: an AV block shows a disconnect between the P waves and QRS complexes, whereas a heart attack shows specific changes in the ST segment, T waves, and Q waves, highlighting the affected areas. Both are serious, but they require different treatments; AV blocks might need pacing, and heart attacks require urgent restoration of blood flow to the heart.

Are there ECG questions on the TEAS?

There may be basic ECG questions but not what you need to know in the extent of this video.
