Harvesting echinacea for tea is very easy. In this video, you'll learn how to harvest echinacea to make echinacea tea. We've enjoyed growing and making echinacea tea for years. Echinacea tea has many health and immune system benefits, and the flowers are beautiful as well!
The Echinacea plant is actually a part of the daisy family. The Echinacea plant is also known as a coneflower, and grows primarily in the central and eastern parts of North America.
Echinacea is a drought-tolerant perennial plant and can grow up to 4 feet high. Blooming early to late summer, the large flowers are beautiful as an ornamental as well as a healthy supplement.
Suggested Health Benefits of Echinacea
● Treats and helps to prevent the common cold
● Treats coughs and sore throats
● Headaches
● Mild pain medication
● Cancer - Homeopathic therapists claim echinacea helps to relieve chemotherapy side effects
Health benefits of Echinacea and its extracts in any form have yet to be substantiated by scientific research. However, the personal testimony and tradition of thousands of North American Native peoples, for many centuries does suggest there are truly health benefits from taking echinacea products.
Be sure to check back for part 2!

Yeah she sure didn't tell you. Just cut the leafs and flowers not seeds. Put in cup, pour boiling water over the herbs and I cover and sleep for 10-15 mins. She says use from old plant 2 years... They come back every year. I planted my from seed last year. So I won't use this year. I'll get the seeds though and start some more. I always got the Echinacea in capsules from Walmart and have used roots in a Tinture. It works great.

If you are not using the center part of the flower, can we just remove the petals and leaves and leave the center on the plant for bees and to mature into seed?

Good morning Leanne, no my petals got contaminated and I’ve not been able to grow them again to try to get a follow up. However take your leaves and your petals and steep with one of the steepin balls or use your tea press to make your echinacea tea. Use the same premise for like holy basil and mullien. Thank you so much for watching us and maybe I’ll finally get some flowers to do a follow up

I’m growing echinacea for the first time. I was out of town and when I returned the petals of the flowers were turning black on the tips. What does this mean? Did I leave the flowers too long? Are the petals still ok to dry and use in a tea?

Hi Polly, I think to let the plant get mature. That is the recommendation from the herbal book. The petals are part of it

Hi, I know it's been a while since your comment, but I thought I would answer for others to read. When planting from seed the echinacea will not flower the first year but develops its' roots instead. I don't know if it will flower the second year because I haven't experienced this yet, but perhaps that is why she says to only take petals and leaves from two-year-old plants. Once established they reseed easily and before you know it in 10 years you'll have a giant echinacea patch.
