Nice session Donny. Piston engines are amazing really. 2000rpm @ 1hr on a 4 cycle motor with a 70mm stroke, that piston had travelled 33.6km. I'll never forget that example from my automotive teacher back at high school

Awesome video mate enjoy hearing you opinion on things! Im a professional timber man. And maintenance is very important. I by plugs and filters by the box and Sunday is my maintenance day saws get striped cleaned for another week . And I use Motul 800 or ipone dirt bike oil over 10 years of use and 15 years on dirt bikes things just don't wear out as fast with them oils. Keep up the great work mate!

I like echo’s flywheel remover...it’s a knocker with replaceable thread adapters. The m8 thread pattern works on most every saw I mess with.

Those old rotary valve carts were amazing. I remember using a mates old rotary valve cart on a test day. Wrestling the steering and a frame as stiff as wet spaghetti. Come to the straight that thing would blow past more modern carts hitting 19000 rpm by the end of the straight.

If saw is tuned in cut to 9000rpm the piston will be cycling 150 times per second. That equates to 540,000 cycles per hour. At 1000 hours of run time you are looking at 540,000,000 million cycles or more than 1/2 a BILLION cycles! Of course if your saw cuts at a higher rpm in the cut then this figure will be even greater! IF you are not using top-tier gas/oil mix coupled with a Razer sharp chain and regular maintenance then it’s all in the garbage 🗑... I’d say from personal experience this is even more critical on these new stratos-charged air leak saws IF you want longevity from them

@@donnywalker4691 thanks Donny - just trying to put it into perspective how many times the whole assembly is whipping around during its life cycle. I think ya touched on the maintenance/fuel aspect of it and you are right on the money ... Only thing I wood add is to keep the chain sharp - dull chain will do a number on the saw for sure ! Keep your pecker in your pants , whiskey in the cupboard and your saw in the wood 😉

We switched our saws over reck gas or mix race and high octane gas. Run oil with stabilizer in it. Have had good results so far.
@apersonontheinternet80063 жыл бұрын
I've been running premix in mine for the last couple of years, Stihl brand in the Stihls and Echo in the Echos. The stuff is pricy but the only ethanol free fuel I can find is high test while my saws call for 89 and its not even close to home. I can go through a couple of jobs on a gallon in most cases - exception apply - and the expense over the course of a year is only a few hundred dollars, give or take. I'm not a firewood guy so I'm not bucking down trees into hundreds of logs or anything, I pick them up with the Kubota 047-4 with grapple and throw them on a trailer 9 times out of 10. For me, there is nothing worse than being in the middle of a job when a saw starts to run funky and I really haven't needed to clean a carb or do much of anything since I made the switch. I think the expense is justified for my use case but can understand why firewood guys or weekend foresters may not be able to justify it. I also like that I can go buy a case and leave some at the property, some in the van, some in the bosses truck, some in the job box and some at home while not having to worry about the fuel spoiling or expelling fumes in the van, truck, or basement at the property. I don't think I've ever had a can go the 2 years shelf stable life, let alone the proclaimed 5 unopened, but I find value in having my saw always full and ready to rip with shelf stable fuel on deck nearly anywhere I am.

Just did some quick math. If a saw runs 12,500 rpm, in just 50 hours of running at full tilt, that's 37,500,000 times that the slug has gone up and down in the jug! Those are mind-blowing numbers!

People are cheap, yes, but little they know it will be more expensive in the future. Maintaining your equipment and tools (even if they are lower quality) will save you money on the long run. Using good oils and fuel is key.

It’s great listening to you dude. I think one of my saws may have an air leak, it’s an MS460. If I hold it normally it’s fine, if I turn it on it’s side it’s fine. But if I hold it by the back handle with one hand so the bar is pointing at the ground the rpm starts to rise. Have you any ideas about that please? Hope you’re well and all of my fellow subs are too :)
