Carburetors will have to be retuned every so often, either temperature or fuel changes, after break-in, and vibration. Now for the bar tear drop oil hole that’s not just Echo, the B&C on those are actually Oregon and seen that design on many other makes and brands heard it was for pressure. I drill any bar to a circular hole with a #30 bit with the angled oil port now. CS590 Echo Timberwolf is best bang for your buck! Last non-stratocharged/clamshell/electronic saw with a magnesium case and bolt-on cylinder made today along with some other models of Echo’s. No other brand has kept the ease to work on classic durable design.

I love my echo 590. However, (and I can’t seem to find a common pattern as to why it happens) if it doesn’t fire up right away it is a major pain to try and get started. It’s happened to me a couple time. I’d honestly prefer a primer bottom but I don’t know if it somehow drains its own fuel from the engine or what. But other than that if it starts it works without a tick and has done a lot of large cutting jobs for me.

@@HuckThis1971 ah, never thought to purposely engage high idle. Not to mention I didn’t know how lol. I believe the first time it had starting issues I was using the echo brand of pre mixed fuel which I believe is 93 octane and the second time if I remember right it was husqvarnas 95 octane mix. Other than those two times so far it starts right up. 2-3 pull with choke out and 1-3 pulls with the choke off and it gets right to work.

It might be me, but I have already replaced the bar and have gone through several chains. The chains seem to stretch to the point where you cannot adjust them out anymore. This could be the way I use it. For the cutting straight down I let the saw do the work.

Yeah I got the 42cc poulan pro which out does my buddy's Husqvarna not sure what cc it is. Mild poulan pro is at least 5 years old. I bought it for $60 on marketplace adjusted the carburetor and it does better than comparable chainsaws in size. But I'm about to pick up this new echo which I've heard great things about. And I'm not trying to say that the pollen pro is a badass all I'm just saying for the money you pay for that day it's pretty impressive. I clear a lot as a part-time job and it does compare to other saws of equal size.

I have noticed on two new 590's that the factory has the Low jet set really rich, which is fine for break in and letting the rings seat but later you want to adjust that, this is also what is causing the saw to load up during idle and making it want to die from flooding, mind you this is at 9K in elevation and wouldn't be as big of an issue at lower elevations. The way they made this saw it has a bypass in the low jet so even if you lean the saw out on the top end it wants to run rich. I changed out the low jet to one that stops that from happening but then you have to treat it like any other saw and make sure you aren't running it too lean. Also both saws when new where running close to 1K below max rpm, once the rings have seated, a mild muffler mod and using a tach lean that top end out some and it becomes a different saw. I changed the bar out to a Sugi to save weight and went to a rim/drum setup (call Oregon chainsaw parts for the proper one) and it saves you money over buying the Echo version that is on the 600/620, but a different bar isn't really needed on this saw unless it's just a personal thing. As far as the oiler goes I haven't had any issue's with it. The weight thing that a lot of people talk about is not so much the actual weight in my opinion, to me it's more of where the weight is balanced in the saw. My Stihl (036) seems to have the weight lower so when working the saws on their side the Echo seems to want to twist more in my hands, but my Husky (372) feels like it does the same as the Echo. For the money the 590 is a fantastic saw and when tuned right will give my 036 a run for the money, actually better than a run for it's money since it costs half the price of the Stihl. Run 89 to 91 octane, ethanol free gas with a quality AIR COOLED two stroke oil. I would say the 590 is closer to the Husky 460 than the 455 just looking at the specs, I have run the 455 next to the 590 but I cannot give a fair comparison since the owner of the 455 hadn't taken care of the saw and the chain/bar was beyond salvaging which gave the 590 an extremely unfair advantage, plus the 455 had never been tuned since the day it was bought.

My only issue was the chain tensioner screw maxes out when the chain is only half worn out. We make our own chain (full chisel Carlton) and actually make them at 69 links. Wood eating machine. @@yomommajumprcables I bought a 271 Farm Boss in October but sold it because I was in a bind so now looking at the Echo CS590 Timberwolf. I actually loved the Farm Boss, it started good, and cut extremely well but was plastic clamshell. From what I've learned the Echo has magnesium casing, an extra 15cc motor and rated at 4hp where the Farm Boss was 3.49. And the Farm Boss is $449 verses $400 for the Echo and the Echo has 5yr warranty where the Farm Boss comes with 1 yr warranty and 2 yr if you purchase a 6pack of synthetic 2stroke oil so after already owning the Farm Boss I think I'm going to try my luck on the Echo CS590 Timberwolf. I'm excited to get one and see how I like it. I have heard about some issues of starting problems but not very many, most people say they start good so when I buy one I just hope I get a good one. Had mine for a couple years also. Agree with everything you said except my oiler works fine and the decompression valve does reduce pull effort noticeably. Never had to adjust it. Recently, a storm dropped a large Maple across my drive. I always run the saw dry after use. In my rush, I filled it from the wrong gas can - pure gas! I cut the trunk into pieces and de-limbed it and cut those limbs up. The engine stopped on me on one cut. Why? I wondered. Started her up and continued. It stopped once more after a few more cuts. Then I realized why!! I drained and added the correct gas mix and she ran fine. I finished the tree. Next day, I removed the carb and plug and used a borescope that attaches to my cellphone to see inside. I couldn't get the muffler off to look at the rings, but the bore was scored and the piston showed some scuffed patches. There was still good compression and performance is the same as before. I'll spend the couple hundred bucks on a cylinder and piston kit when the saw stops working. Otherwise, it's running just like before. Great chainsaw! I love it.

If your oiler is plugging up. Check and see if the sprocket is on backwards. If it's a rim sprocket, the holes on it need to be facing the outside. If they are facing the inside the sawdust can't get out and is carried forward and deposited in the oil hole.

I agree with most of your comments. The decompression value is not as efficient as some of the ones I experienced on motorcycles and old 3/ wheelers. The gas cap takes close attention to not cross thread and feels like it is gaulded while tightening. I put a thin layer of grease to help that. Removing the carb limiters and a muffler mod woke the saw up. My CS330t has been a good saw also. good luck and have a good one

I have a Stihl MS-391 with a 20" bar and a Echo CS-490 with a 16" bar. I love both of those saws and run them hard. I've had them for about 3 years now. This summer I want to buy a Echo CS-590 Timber Wolf with a 18" bar and a Husqvarna 435E X-Torq with a 16'' bar "just because". Not only do I use my saws at home for clearing and cleaning up storm damage and cutting campfire wood, but my assistant and I in the maintenance department at work use them to cut up wood skids and large wooden crates. It's nice to have extras and backups on hand. If you dull the chain on one and don't have the time or feel like sharpening or replacing it you simply pick up another saw. If you have one that wants to be a SOB that particular day and not want to start or run right you pick up another saw. If you have mechanical problems with one and need parts or repairs you pick up another saw. If more than one person wants to help you have extra saws to use. On a hot 100+ degree summer day and you have been running them hard and hot, you set that one down to cool off and pick up another saw. I think you get the idea why I would need or want 2-4 chainsaws. I have owned and used Poulans in the past and won't buy another. They are cheap big box store junk with a predetermined 50 hour service life. I've trashed two of them so far and decided to start buying better quality machines after that.

I have the same saw, its beastly. I love it thus far. I've had mine a little under a year. Its a bigger saw, but not something so big that you can't use it everyday. I have some bigger girth cherry trees like you do too. Its great quality Japanese engineering. They have a plant in Lake Zurich, Michigan. My first Echo product, I haven't had an issue with the oil hole on the bar. I clean my saws after each use too. You're looks great. You have to take care on the things you rely on. I just got in from using my Husqvarna 340. I had a 70 foot balsam fir taken down after a bad wind storm near the powerlines. I have an Husqvarna 353 I used to limb and buck the base of the tree and used my 340 to finish off the peak. The CS-590 Timberwolf is my biggest saw. Its sure going to come in handy when the snow melts some more. The Timberwolf has a winter shutter switch for cold weather use too, you can see it easily, in front on the air filter. Just something to keep in mind if you're cutting firewood or have a tree come down somewhere in 25'F or colder. Just side the shutter from side to side with you're bar tool.

Interesting comment regarding the decompression button. I just got this saw yesterday, used it the first time today. Couldn't pull the starter cord much at all without pushing in the decompression button. Push that in and it starts, pops the decompression button out. I've only cut a small amount of wood, largest was about 14" but it does the job. I was really overworking my little Stihl MS180 using it as a logging saw. It was originally purchased when I had only a small amount of small stuff to cut, not even felling trees. The teeth on the Echo chain are about 3x the size of those on the Stihl. One meant for pruning small stuff, one meant for taking down and cutting up good size trees. The only negative thing I noticed was that the chain brake lever is really stiff. I'm used to pulling on the Stihl lever with almost no effort to unlock it. Maybe this will loosen up over time. One thing I would change is the start/stop switch, I think it would be better to have stop be up. Easy to flip it up with your thumb when you want to stop the saw. Not a big thing of course and it could be I'm just used to flipping the lever up on the Stihl since stop is the top position (it is a single lever where choke is all the way down: stop, run, start, choke). Really glad to see you are still happy with it after 2 years.

I bought a CS590 yesterday, not regretting it. Thanks again. I have the same thoughts on the larger bar, the new manuals show up to a 27". Just for a few cuts I need to make. I am thinking I may go with a semi-chisel on the long bar, or maybe even a skip tooth, just to keep from bogging. I dunno, might try both.

The large Echo's are shiddaiwa's. Echo bought them out. That is a good thing. The Shindaiwa was and is a great saw but people didn't like the name and wouldn't buy them. I own a 500 and a 590 now. I have owned 6 total. I have had Stihl, , Husqvarna, Jonsered, Dolmar, none of them cut as well or gave me the service that my Echo's have. AND they come with a 5 year warranty.

@@sixtwoishere I have the cs-590 as well. Great saw. I live in eastern NC and bought it last year after the hurricane busted the east side of our state, especially Wilmington where I live. Its been a badass from day one. I did upgrade to a 24 inch bar and it handles it with ease. Plenty of power and reliability. I haven't used it in six months and just went out and fired it up no problem. The Echo oil mix has fuel stabilizer so that helps alot for the people that don't use them on a weekly or so basis. Good luck, we got another hurricane bearing down on us so had to make sure it would fire up.

Yes Stihl, and Husqvarna have clamshell crank cases but that is only the cheaper homeowner and "farm and ranch" grade saws like this 590 is. This 590 I think is actually the best "farm and ranch" grade saw out there and its actually cheaper I think then the farm boss line from Stihl and Rancher line from Husqvarna. If you buy a pro saw from either MFG its going to have a magnesium case. I know I have seen some Dolmar saws have aluminum crank cases. Mine has magnesium, I have a Makita DCS6421 which is a 64cc pro saw think the Dolmar model is 6400 Makita owns Dolmar they are the same saws. I have Stihl, Husqvarna, Redmax, Makita, Echo, John Deere which I think was made by Echo the newer Cub Cadet and Deere saws were made by Efco, and I have a throwaway Homelite saw. I might buy an Echo CS400 just because I can use the dozen or so chains I have from that homelite with the CS400. Can't use those chains with any of the saws I have now unless I change out parts so if I can find another nice used CS400 for $125 like the last 2 I saw I might buy one just because I have all those chains. If you think this saw is intimidating wait till you pick up a larger pro saw lol. Even my Makita. Its only 64cc but its about 1 whole HP more then that Echo. I have a Stihl MS440 and Husqvarna 372xp too. As far as the anti vibe I think all modern saws have some form of anti vibration.

Just sold my new sthil to purchase a echo cs590 Timberwolf and love it. I don't understand why it has a decompression button because it's no harder to start than my farm boss that I can tell, I've never used the decompression button and always starts on 2nd pull from a cold start. I like how it only oils when the chain is running and it's the best decision I've made in buying a saw, especially selling a stihl to be able to purchase it . $400 with that kind of power and reliability with a 5 year warranty makes it the most amazing saw on the market

You can always run a longer bar and go with a skip tooth chain. I run a 620p with a 24" all the time. I wouldn't be afraid to go to a 32" bar with a skip tooth chain just don't push it let it cut. I have a 36' on a 394 husky, it's not easy to get a straight lcut with long bars. The saw will always try to pull the cut away from the weight of the saw if the chain is cutting straight. I always kicked myself for not getting a 48" bar instead of the 36". On the big ones I'm always ending up not quite making it which just pisses me off. The 24" is a garenteed walk around but does as much as the 36" in a trunk I can't reach through and is a little easier to keep straight during a cut. Just my 2 cents.

The old McCulloch saws were great. The newer saws seem to be junk and I heard Husqvarna or the parent company bought the McCulloch name. Half the saws out there now are owned by them from Redmax, Jonsered, Poulan, and I have heard they made or make the Remington and Craftsman saws, well the Rem and Craftsman saws would actually be Poulan just a different color. I know I have heard McCulloch was bought by them as well and the new ones I have seen are cheap junk possibly just a yellow and black Poulan. Redmax and Jonsered are just red Husqvarna. I have a Redmax that is the exact same saw as the Husqvarna 439 which is a rear handle version of the 435T top handle saw made for arborists in tree or bucket work. I can't think of what the model of mine is though but I know its identical to the 439 from Husqvarna just its red not orange and says Redmax not Husqvarna on the sticker. The local dealer that sold Jonsered closed last year said it was because Redmax and Jonsered merged I don't know about that but don't know of anywhere that sells Jonsered anymore. Only place besides that dealer that sold them around here was Tractor Supply and they sell Husqvarna again same homeowner and farm and ranch grade saws though just different color. I have been told the cheapest of the homeowner Husqvarna saws are actually Poulan not sure if that's true but the homeowner Husqvarna saws do suck lol so it might be. If I was buying one of the higher end homeowner or ranch saws I would buy Stihl or Echo. If buying a pro saw I would buy Husqvarna, Makita/Dolmar, Stihl, or Echo. I actually own all them. I really like Dolmar/Makita just not really any dealers around here. One of the reasons I kinda prefer Stihl is because dealers are everywhere and I like that they don't sell their saws at big box stores like Home Depot.

@@JesseLJohnson They do now. Just start looking at any Community or ACE hardware store. They used to brag about the fact that nobody could sell their equipment that didn't service it as well.....not anymore. The only problem Echo has is nobody down here in SE Texas will service them. This is obviously Stihl country.

@@douglascrosby6536 Hit and miss on that - I guarantee you that Ace Hardware in New Martinsville WV is a very good Stihl dealer. Here some of the Ace stores had to up their behavior because Stihl found they weren’t doing the pre-sale. I bought mine 40 miles away and they did the whole pre-sale and had been able to keep 201’s and 500i’s in stock but I haven’t checked for a while.

The gumming up issue could be from the type of wood you are cutting. I notice that happens to me when the wood is in that in between stage of green and dried out. The wood turns almost soft at least with Oklahoma Blackjack.

I changed the bar and the Oregon bar doesn’t do it. I also worked on the stock bar and doesn’t have as much trouble with it now, maybe I’ll do a video on that soon.

In the OLD OLD days with the Idiot Whip (hand Cross Cut 1 or 2 man) the sawyers carried a small container of Kerosene or other natural solvent which they put on the saw to cut the turpentine or wood sap to stop the stickiness.

@@WilliamsonRidge Yes please show how you resolved the oiler getting plugged. I am having the same problem. It is the only thing about this saw I find very frustrating. Everything else has been great.

I just bought one, it can be a pain to start, I recommend never to use the compression release. My CS-400 is over 14 years old and still runs well. So far not as impressed with the 590.
