why are yanking so much on the way up - like a beginner would do?if you have real line on it you'd be screwed.

He is not. He is lifting the line off the ground/water. Look at where the backcast goes,. It does not go up in the air behind him but directly straight behind him. Look at the tracking of the rod tip during the backcast. It is HORIZONTAL. The line follows the rod tip so the line goes horizontally and not angled up.
