Echo Show 5 and 8 2nd gen: Which is best for you?

Purchased the new echo show 5 release. And also the show 8 2020 release. Got it with a bundle with blink cameras. And only pay $15 a month for 4 months. Suuuuuuuuuper cheap and so far love it

Terrific review! I have the Show 5, bought new, not refurbished, 6 months ago for $45. I use it on my nightstand. The best clock radio+ ever. I love how it integrates with SiriusXM. One feature omitted from the Show 5 2nd Generation is the AUX port, which the Show 5 1st Generation includes.

Aux is nice but ethernet is available still. And I find I don't really use aux as much as I use Bluetooth anyways.

Considering the 5 for an xmas gift for a friend. It's on sale for $50 CDN or about $40 USD. Might be cool as a clock on a nightstand, play some music upstairs, ask about weather, that sort of thing.

@@kweenjade01 i got the 5 for myself and my friend and that's exactly what each of us use it for. We've also each set them up to control some accent lights. I have used it to set up a video monitor too so I can check in on my pup before.

Can u turn on microphone as well as video while monitoring with the camera, so you can talk to pets and they can see you as well as hear? I wanna interact with my fur babies when I am away

Yesss! That's actually the second main reason I want am echo show actually. Lol not as good as a camera if u want the notifications but still awesome. (I have a husky that goes crazy when I'm gone haha)

In that part of the video, the show 5 is showing us the camera on the show 8. It’s like he’s FaceTimeing the 5 from the 8. So what you see on the 5, is coming from the 8. The video on the 8 is from the 5.

Got the show 8 for $60 but I would have liked the show 5 I wanted the bigger screen though. I may get a newer one down the road. I wanted it for a photo slide show. I wish the shutter were black instead of white but it is noticeable at least

The Echo Show 5 will search for Recipes & show you how to make things & also save the recipe. Echo Show 8 won't search for recipes. Shame on Amazon as this is what I used heaps in my kitchen. Getting rid of the Echo Show 8.

@@killer_style0079 a Fire Tablet is another type of screen based device that Amazon sells. It used to be marketed as an ebook reader but since it has app capabilities and a camera, its marketed more as just a tablet now.

I'm guessing sound would be a little better on this than the fire tablet because of the speaker, though I'm not certain I've never had one of their tablets or this show. But yeah if you had a tablet I suppose you could just get a stand for it, plug it in and use it similarly.
