Culp’s Hill was occupied by Union troops all three days of the battle and became the extreme right flank of the Union defensive line at Gettysburg. On the night of July 2nd, 1863, 1400 New Yorkers under the command of George S, Greene would be tasked with holding this position against a Confederate force of nearly 5,000 men. Will they hold? Join me as we find out and learn about this battle through the accounts of the men who fought it.

The photography of the hill taken with no leaves on the trees really helps with the understanding of the obstacles faced by the attacking units.

The battle may not have been won here, but it certainly was saved here. If I ever get back to Gettysburg - my only trip there was in 1973 when I was 10 - Pickett's Charge can wait; I want to walk and scale Culp's Hill. 😉

Very valid statement! Culp’s Hill is such a fascinating area. The terrain in the winter really pops and gives you a great visual.

Good presentation of accounts being mixed from both sides. I always like the personal accounts from the people that were there. They give a deeper meaning and understanding of the event.

Gen. George S. Greene lived almost the entire 19th century and he was the oldest general on either side. His achievements as an engineer are really remarkable. The Union was lucky to have him.

Why was a quote from the 20th Georgia used? They were at Devil's Den not Culp's Hill.

So I found the quote here. But you made a good point. They weren’t at Culp’s Hill. Perhaps this was a typo on their part. Learning never stops for any of us. www.civilwarmed.org/voices-gettysburg/

The worst day of Gettysburg. This is the day the Rebs lost the civil war. The 150th NY Dutchess county regiment was there on that day.
