Echolalia is generally defined as the automatic repetition or echoing of sounds, words, or even entire sentences after they were heard (Błeszyński, 2010, p. 100).

The appearance of echolalia suggests that the child is able to focus on speech itself. It is a very important element of the speech development of a small child. Healthy babies become sensitive to speech sounds already in the first months of life. Children with autism have difficulty in eliminating other sounds and noises from the environment (Siegel, 2012, p. 62), therefore, when a person with autism reveals an abilityto verbalize, it is a positive sign for the acquisition of communication competences.
