I imagine the lyrics of this song to be advice from a single father to his teenage son who's just fallen in love for the first time. All while he's giving this advice, in the back of his head he's thinking about the things he neglected to do with his ex (the boy's mother). He's thinking of how he was exactly in his son's position as a teenager with the boy's mother and all of this advice is for his son to learn from his own mistakes. The video begins with a young boy about to talk to a girl. It goes back and forth from the perspective of the father talking to his son and to the father as his and the boy's mother's relationship starts and ends in flashbacks. The video leads up to a scene similar to the first scene but instead it's the son beginning to talk to the girl. In the same place as his father.

This was the song I’d play for my cat, Daisy. This was her song. The past couple of days, she wasn’t feeling well. So I decided to play this song for her at night and I’m very glad I did. Because it was one of the last songs she heard before she was put down today. I couldn’t go with my parents to the vet bc I had class and I thought that she would be coming back. When the doorbell rang and they didn’t have her with them and my dad said, “She went to heaven.” I started bawling. My Daisy. I’m sad I wasn’t there to say my final goodbye. This song is definitely for a woman that I've known for years and back in the 80s we were lovers and damn it the part in the lyrics where it says don't let it run away tell her you love her and she'll tell you she loves too which is exactly what happened and our ways parted through no fault of our own and we lost touch until now, we're both married to others but we both have feelings for each other and this song hits home and I was in tears, damn it Echosmith!

I got to leave this morning to pick up parts for the bike but I will never run away from her or leave her if she would ever have me and if she's got someone else then I am grateful to God that she has someone at her side to help her through these hard times and I pray he has the strength I didn't have to keep her happy I hope he has the instinct to know when that mood changes and to see the pain that's there that I could not see I got lucky and was there to help her a few times and I'm grateful to God because his angel is probably the best and most beautiful creature I have ever seen
