There was some goofy shit like that in BFII, like the V-Wing being a bomber, the ARC-170 being a starfighter, the Galactic Marines being Clone Commanders, etc. I heard the BFII crew was under a hell of a crunch to release the game, both to coincide with ROTS and because of poor leadership at Lucasarts, so I wonder if some lore issues like the V-Wing came about because the crew was getting images or concept art from the movie without getting the full understanding of what certain things were, but having to force them into use because of the time crunch.

You really didn't talk about the good things on the V-Wing. Number 1: the Astromech. This allows you to put less trained pilots in the cockpit because the astromech can help to keep the engines tuned, help to rotate the lasers for aiming, and to do repairs after flights. They also can act as an anti-theft device by preventing the craft from operating without the codes that the astromech has stored onboard. Number 2: They don't need a special landing pad because the panels rotate downward to act as landing gear. Number 3: You can issue these out to planetary defense forces with less concern for them being used for things other than self defense. Without a hyperdrive, and with the proper astromech keeping an eye on them, there's little concern of them leaving the system that they were intended to protect. This is actually one of my favorite craft and those are some of the main reasons why. :)

That's true. Additionally, unlike the TIE's, the V-Wing had a greater field of vision for it's pilots while the TIE's field of view was restricted by both the wings and its limited front-facing window.

Day thirty seven of asking Eck my question: #AskEck Why do you think the pirates kept grogu, there was quite obviously a bounty on him considering all the hunters with tracking fobes and I doubt they wouldn't have known about it, so we're actually protecting him. My theory is that after he was saved after the purge, so senator or rebel group hired these pirates to protect him, but was eventually captured by the empire or forgot about grogu, (why he was never given to the new republic after the war), and the pirates not knowing he was a jedi just kept and raised him till mando showed up, killed them and stole their kid.

Thank you so much for referencing the Saga Edition RPG books! I haven't used them in years, but they were great, and some of my favorite sources of Legends information that I can hold in my hands. 😊 The Empire is often kind of funny when you see them trying to balance costs with acting like they had unlimited resources, other moments. 😊 "We need TIE fighters to be CHEAP, if we even accept Star Destroyers need snub fighters, at all (they do), but that's only because of the redonkulous amounts of stuff bring poured into the Death Stars, other Imperial Superweapons; some the Empire didn't even know they were constructing, like the Sun Crusher, with resonance torpedoes that each probably cost a Death Star, and other super-capital ships." There were things that remind us that the Emperor basically could strip whole worlds of assets, and resources, and he had thousands of worlds, but then occasionally even his system "came up short", and couldn't just also have all TIE Defenders, or the like. I had basically forgotten about Vader's black Sith Eta-2's, and it's often interesting to see what ships he chooses, when he still acted like an ace pilot, even if he tinkered with his own. A weird thing for me, with Star Wars, is how fighters seemed to reach a plateau, somewhere around the X-Wing, and then they continued to move ahead, but refuse to get better? Was it just an unwritten rule that you don't one up the verse's most iconic fighter? I remember reading about several of the ships that popped up post-Endor, and onto the NJO, and while some were just aesthetically displeasing, most were also flawed, in ways that seemed odd, with the X-Wing, and Y-Wing, there as inspiration. I often recall the R7 astromech, which was one of the best R-series droids made in decades, after several flops, following the vaunted R2. R7s were basically built specifically to interface with one, and only one, variety of starfighter; the E-Wing, which was worth it, because the E was going to replace the X...and that's too bad, because the E-Wing was pretty crap, and in any other capacity, outside an E-Wing's socket, the R7 was crap, instead. Sure, other people built it, but it's not like there weren't functioning ships to look at, and improve, before committing to build them. It's like it took till Legacy, and then it was just an improved X-Wing; the X-83 Twintail, and a slightly cheaper TIE Defender, in the form of the Predator.😊

Agree with you that it's weird ships never evolved. An in-universe explanation could be that funding for the rebel alliance bottomed out after the battle of endor, and they are forced to refit old fighters rather than obtain new ones. ...Of course, what would have been *nice* is giving the new republic their own new fighter, so it was clear somebody was at least trying to make changes.

I love this craft. The fighter-bomber variant used in Battlefront II by Pandemic Studios is quite a favorite, in contrast to the average single-seater ARC-170 and the painfully fragile Jedi Interceptor. If anything, I really dislike the similarly named New Republic combat airspeeder from Dark Empire and the first Rogue Squadron. Too weird design, and it's not too effective when flown unlike its lighter T-47 predecessor. Addendum: Aside all this, can anyone explain how the Mandalorians got some V-Wings and a Venator in the Empire at War: Forces of Corruption campaign tutorials? Were they clone defectors from the failed Anti-Trooper rebellion or something else?

The easy thing to say is that FoC isn't canon. The longer explanation is that many Venators (and probably their fighter companions) would have been sold by scrappers on the black market after realizing that the intact and functioning ship would be worth more if sold to a military than sold as scrap. Another explanation would be that they could have just been surplus sold to planetary defense forces during the Republic days, and later sold to the highest bidders in auctions or something similar.

Even more confusing, the ones that are on the big turrets are not referred to as heavy turbolasers, while the ones that there are a lot of in the oreo trench are referred to as heavy turbolasers? This seems to be the opposite of real world gun capital ships where the heaviest guns are in the big turrets, the lighter guns are in open mounts, lightly protected turrets or within the hull of the ship depending on the gun and time period.

i completely despise the idea that the Empire did things for "optics" its the dumbest thing imaginable to dispose of ships for no reason. The idea that the Empire scrapped Venators just because they were "symbols of the Republic" makes me not want to even take part in Starwars. Ships should be replaced for good reasons like their successors are superior or cheaper to maintain or more suitable to changing doctrine (all good reasons)

@@MrChickennugget360 In the venator's case, it can be really easy to make arguments for the ISD replacing it: Carrier fleets are not terrifically important when all fronts are within reach of your chain of supply. The whole point of carriers is to project fighter power at longer ranges than airfields(or, in SW's case, planetary bases.) This makes sense if you're a smaller nation fighting other nations in the same galaxy, and need to project fighter power to your border regions. For the empire, they could have tie bases on almost every planet. Even if a carrier role is needed, Ties from an ISD are very well optimized for interception roles, even the basic Ln model. Given the lack of need for shields and hyperdrives, it generally out-performs the heavier long-range fightercraft in actual combat. Tie swarms being beaten is down to tactics, not tech. The ability to carry bombers is not important to an ISD so it doesn't need the hangar space for many heavy large craft like the arc-170; the ISD-1 is plenty sufficient to crack hard-targets in space and on the ground with its own impressive heavy gun array. The ISD is also not as dependent on support ships as the Venator is, generally being upgunned and with greater defense in almost every way. Basically, I like to think the Empire was technologically superior in every way, as it makes them a more intimidating villain. They were beaten rather by their own chain of command favoring loyalty over competency at the higher ranks, and by clever, unconventional, and often radical tactics employed by the Rebellion.

I know it has large hangar space to overwhelm fighters onto other capital ships and plenty of turbo laser systems, but in Star Wars media the ship is shown to just be a command ship and mostly have Munificent class frigates do most of the heavy lifting in the separatist navy. Even in Revenge of the Sith the invisible hand is side by side with a venator and still loses the fight. I know this could be because of the venators powerful weaponry but do you think a Providence could hold up without overwhelming a capital ship with fighters?

I know this is just really ocd nitpicking on my part that no one else cares about, but I lowkey really hate that they named this craft the V Wing because 1) It doesn't look at all like a V 2) It's not used by the Rebel Alliance like all the other alphabet fighters 3) There was already a cool fighter/airspeeder called the V Wing in the comics and video games that doesn't have the first two points working against it. On that same note, they really should have called the B Wing the T Wing. I know there's already a T Wing but the canon T Wing also looks nothing like a T. It just looks like some kind of Y wing with a Third engine and angled struts. Maybe that one could be called a Psi wing or a Psi Fighter after the greek letter.

Faster than most ships of even the Empire era, more maneuverable than all but TIE Interceptor and TIE Fıghter. Has shields and missiles along with a possible hyperdrive upgrade. Has an astromech. Much better field of view than any of the Empire era ships. Both smaller in size and smaller in profile. All in a ship that is marginally more expensive than a TIE. Oh not to mention a gimballed weapon (something most star wars ships don't have) that allows for it to fire without perfectly aiming at a target and well... missiles.

The Bad Batch, Battlefront 2 (2017), Lords of the Sith book and Dark Times comic series are the only Star Wars media that give the V-wing much exposure. It does have better visibility for the pilot than a TIE.

Though not the intended scope of the video, I think the Empire should have kept the V wing and the Z-95 over the Tie fighter. As someone else mentioned here the benefits of an astromech on a V wing, and it's lack of hyperdrive make it good for protection, while keeping it locked in one system outside of additional support. The Z-95 commercial version was 80k versus the TIE's 60k per unit. The empire could modify the clone version to fit the commercial design, which has a lot more versatility and survivability. The shields, laser cannons, proton torpedoes or concussion missiles, and parts availability mean less demand for specialization and is also easier on logistics due to it also being a commercial product. If they produced the Z-95 in bulk like the TIE, I'd imagine the price would be lower for the empire. In addition, it's modularity makes adding a hyperdrive doable. Longer pilot lifespan also means less money spent on training, and you can have higher standards for them while still being able to keep numbers up.

V-wing wasn't technically obsolete because V-wing was faster than TIE_fighters Ln& Landers and V- wing was comparable with Awing in speed areas, and V-wing was more armoured. Usually Empire venator cruiser carried 36 ARC170[ or XY-wings before Rebellion appear], 192 TIE-fighters + V19 + V-wings

There's some really interesting lore about the Jedi Starfighter to V-Wing to Tie Fighter where they hammered out super-maneuverable designs, adapted them for more normal pilots, and then geared that for cheap production. According to a lot of lore stats even, Ties are supposed to be more maneuverable and faster than the Rebel all-round fighter-bombers, but it doesn't exactly get expressed in the fiction.

when Comparing the V-wing to ships like the Tie and A-wing, I would say it is comfortably outclassed, its bulkier and less maneuverable than both, and slower, the weapons are likely equal, maybe a little weaker, but it doesn't matter because it will never get it's guns on target. even during the clone wars i would say it was fairly useless, not capable enough to replace the arc-170 as both fighter and multi-role, maybe a little better than the Z-95, but likely not enough to warrant replacement and the logistics of getting trainer variants, spare parts and mechanic training for maintenance. and no republic ship would out turn a droid tri fighter, so it couldn't be a dedicated answer to that either. it was, in my opinion a transitionary type to cheaper cost fighters for use in swarm tactics, where it would likely do about alright. but in comparison to the A wing, or Tie fighter? its like asking if the Me-262 would be good against the F-86 sabre, or Mig-15. its a comparison thats not really fair

Millions [If not Billions] of people, weapons, vehicles, materials thrown into the grinder. My question is, has there ever been a look into the post-battle? What I mean is what happens to all the destroyed ships, vehicles, weapons, and deceased personnel after an engagement? I've seen the few pictures of medics that pop up every now and then in your videos, and I've always been curious. I know for ships/vehicles they have scrapyards, but what about the people that "Go down with the ship" do they just bury them on the spot or cremate them? I know in Forces of Corruption the husk of the Death Star I was just left there initially.

I know that Legends had the galactic civil war going on for almost another 20 years after Endor while new Canon only has the war lasting one year. Do you think the 20 year timeframe of legends was accurate or could the Empire be defeated in a shorter time like say 10 years?

Sadly I think theres only 4 fighters that actually match there name A,TIE, U, and landa with the landa and U wing not being a fighter but still making the cut.
