Eckhart Tolle on the Significance of Being Present in the Now

I'm now starting to know how to stay in the now. I always felt frustrated not knowing why it was so hard for me. Now I understand that to be in the now, you have to accept the not-knowing of the future. And with an anxiety disorder and complex trauma that is pretty hard because you want to feel control over the future. So to all who listen to this and think, "I want to, but it doesn't work for me," I just want to say: please be gentle with yourself. Know that it is ok that it's hard to be in the now. There is a reason that your system doesn't trust it YET. It takes time (for me decades), but you will get there. If you just feel compassion for yourself ❤.

It was 2008. I was at Barnes and Noble and on the other side of the shelf I could see a glow. I walked around and saw The Power of Now glowing. I’d never heard of it but knew I needed the glowing book. It changed my life and I always come back to it. I never told anyone about the glow because it doesn’t sound real.

I believe you. I had a book fall off the shelf at my feet at Chapters. There was a picture on the front of the book, it had landed face up, of a shattered window and the title was "Scared Selfless". I thought, "that's me" and then picked up the book and put it back on the shelf. I turned to walk away and I heard voices in my head as clear as day begin arguing so loudly "WE NEED THAT BOOK! GO BACK AND GET IT"!! I was so freaked out but went back and bought the book, got to my car and threw it on the seat and said to the voices "There! I bought it! Now go away and leave me alone"! I was so freaked out. Turns out I've had D.I.D my whole life and this was my alters talking and the book was about a woman with D.I.D. We began our real healing journey after this and finally got the correct diagnosis and a good therapist that knows how to work with D.I.D.

The most important thing that makes up our lives on Earth is our spiritual growth because all of the material stuff we might accumulate in life does not serve the universal awakening process and we can't take them with us either. But it's our accumulated wisdom and spiritual essences from living in the now is what we do take with us and that is how we all individually contribute to the awakening evolutionary flow of the universe also. Absolutely. Nothing wrong with wealth and combining spirituality with wealth. After all travel requires a plane ticket and money in matrix helps us to enjoy life. A desire comes only because it already exists. You can desire to travel world, better home better health, more money children etc. People that chase wealth and don’t practise spirituality are not grounded or balanced in life.

For an example: my girlfriend and I are just back from our first holiday together and we'd a great time, but without money it would not of been possible. We are spiritual souls and we enjoy the simpler things in life. I believe it's about combining wealth with spirituality like you said, and that's a wonderful thing. It's lust, greed, and corruption that's the problem when it comes to money.

Around eight in the evening you can still see the proud and radiant pink and yellow light of the sun, elegantly making its way between the old houses of the city center and the small church from many centuries ago. Which seemed to me here now, between the smell of the lime trees and the laughter of the people, the shouts at the top of their lungs and the ringtone of the telephone that continues to buzz in my bag. A girl with the joyful smile of my sister crosses the street. My sister IS here too NOW, she has always been HERE, even now that she is no longer here. An old gentleman and his little dog both looking at me with watery eyes. They both smile at me. Universal Consciousness ❤is the greatest of painters. The real leap is when you realise that even when the mind is playing out past and future scenarios and creating psychological time, that experience is always taking place in the presence of awareness. For example,is NOW a minute? 5 minutes? 20 seconds? How about 15 seconds? When you choose one as "NOW", You get a contradiction that doesn't work. So, now is not a single and measured time. It is impossible. That was my first glimpse. Now can not be expressed in time at all.

Letting thoughts pass without interest or attention becomes a habit after a while, it's understanding and truly accepting they are not your thoughts, you are not responsible for them because thoughts are self arising and mean absolutely nothing. As someone on this channel once put it " they are not your thoughts, they are not even really about you". Since I met Master Eckart, I live in the Now. Before that I was always in the Past, but it is memories, now, because I'm in the Now. But I have a problem: what will happen in the future if I should live in the future? The future is not the now and it would be difficult to be in the now, even tomorow. Let me break this down as I see it, logically. One would have thought that a teacher or guru would know that everyone is Present at the gathering prior to getting there because their consciousness be all beliefof everything would have advised them NOW . Now that would be Significance because Significance means " that expected to arise simply from random variation or errors in sampling and Random means " without method or CONSCIOUS decision". The brain has no compulsion because the brain not only receives information, but interprets and PATTERNS it. This is at odds to what the so called teacher is saying. There is no disfunction in human consciousness because consciousness is just a recall tool that was implemented for awareness by and for your PRESENCE within surrounds, consciousness controls nothing. This is at odds to what the so called teacher is saying. You your linage was initially FORMED not BORN. So your biological BORN BEING is at the congregation meeting so is your FORM PRESENCE which Formed by Transcending from the elements of the universe and manifested which is clear to the eye. This is at odds to what the so called teacher is saying that the human being incarnated. Your Form Source iteration function operates 24/7 and it's been doing that since your lineage inception. That means it's not your choice to present now or not, you are 24/7. Reality couldn't care less what your state of consciousness is nor what your perceptions are. This is at odds to what the so called teacher is saying. Consciousness is just a recall tool. NEVER MIND.

Please become aware of what you are trying to achieve through this discourse. You are trying to tell the brain over and over again to become present, to reach now as it were. But the brain is only ever here now. Thought introduces the past and introduces time but if you are telling the brain not to think it can only stifle it's own operations, and this is not the movement of observation and understanding that is the essence of what you call meditation. So what are you doing in this discourse? You are clearly trying to drum home to the brain that the subject is awareness, not thought, but if it was simply a matter of conveying such a basic truth to the brain then we would have discovered that by now. Actually Tolle, you are doing nothing in this discourse which has any value. The brain simply needs to discover the actual importance of being aware of what is taking place in the consciousness all of the time, and it will only discover the importance of being aware if it is not at the same time trying to impose an artificial awareness on a background of noise, which would have to be repressed if presence is to predominate. So you see, Tolle, nothing you teach is useful at all. So what is useful? It is useful if the brain understands that it has to become aware of it's own operations and of it's life, mind and action, just to simply become aware of these things so that understanding dawns. The brain has to iluminate it's own activities and that of the organism and the feelings and the mind and thereby become a light unto itself. Words and ideas and prejudices, such as those dolled out in all these Eckhart Tolle lectures, prevent the free, uninfluenced, undistorted clarity of silent perception, and so nothing you do or teach Tolle has any value at all. Even if you did suddenly have a death bed conversion to the understanding that each human being MUST become a light unto themselves which cannot happen if that person is following, then to teach that after 20 years of consciously or unconsciously cultivating dependency and sycophantic subservience in your followers would be a complete negation and denial of everything you have been teaching. But you know that this is the truth Tolle, because it IS the truth, and you are not so blind that you can't recognize truth when clearly stated. So what do you say to this truth Tolle? Or will you be living in denial and hoping I go away? What are you going to do about this truth Tolle? Or do I have to raise this issue in a much more prominent forum so that by hook or by crook, a reply can be elicited from you and justice, healing and reconciliation might be achieved here on Earth? We want answers Tolle, truth and, unfortunately, justice here on Earth. How can you deny us the truth of your life and teaching given that you've prostituted this very life and brain to make millions of people hooked and dependent on you? You've cultivated this dependence and now they depend on you to recognize the truth for what it is. Will you do that? All your followers require liberation from you and they will get this liberation from you when they discover the truth about you and your teaching, which was one vast mistake when all that needed saying was that each one of us must illuminate our own lives and minds through observation and the understanding, healing and transformation that this understanding brings about. And there is no role whatsoever for a teacher in this process. No-one can be an expert in your process because only you can observe and illuminate it, understand it. And if this comment goes in one ear and comes out of the other, you can tell you are a psychopath who enjoys the relative peace so much that you believed it to be enlightenment.
