The Viking String Quartet could be another name for them. 😀 The music is so beautiful and it's wonderful when old folk tunes are preserved like this.

The more I listen to this song it overwhelms me. I don't know how to explain it. Its like I'm on an amazing emotional rollercoaster but its not out of control haha. I see a vision in my head as the music plays and it takes me away to another place in another time... Its such a beautiful piece . I just love it.

The Danish String Quartet is doing more than any other classically trained, highly accomplished group to try to integrate a living folk tradition into the "classical" musical world. It's all worthy music. Please, let's dissolve boundaries where we can. Where we can't, then don't. Or maybe, just go ahead and see what happens. In my town, Portland OR, a city known for its great audiences for whatever kinds of music, the audience is getting greyer- and whiter-haired year by year. Let the musicians decide where they need to go and then let's follow them.

The word awesome is banded about far too easily, this is the sound of your first gaze at the ocean, your viewing of the Parthenon, the opening of your first born's eyes.

Why does this remind me of chamber music of Charles Ives? Perhaps because he also incorporated "popular" melodies into his works.

I've seen the DSQ in recital in Portland Oregon when they played an interlude of Danish folk music and I've been hooked ever since. Let us promulgate music in whatever form it presents itself. It will reach and enrich the listeners.
