Not having dual fuel on the first gen was the achilles heal of the smart generator. This 2nd gen fixed that issue and it’s perfect in my opinion. This paired with a Delta Pro would be ideal for extended grid loss situations. Especially in natural disasters like hurricanes or tornadoes where the grid might be down for days. Using a Delta Pro just to run a fridge and this generator with propane to top off the battery would be extremely efficient.

This generator + Delta Pro + Solar + Propane provides an excellent backup system for grid failure scenarios. I design data center class power systems and the features this generator offers is worth the current price of $1299. Auto start and shutoff, propane plus DC charging are key items. Yes, you can buy a cheaper generator with twice the power, but that is the wrong item to review when purchasing a total EcoFlow system.
@johnnysweekends

Exactly, it’s a full set up that can help you make it through grid failures and gives all options basically to be able to provide power. And yes not a good stand alone unit, this is meant to compliment the ECOFLOW ecosystem

@Larry Butler That is an excellent purchase. The average person cannot do that unless they do not value their time shopping, waiting, fixing and installing. Then there is the electrician to install the generator (legally). For $500 I would instantly use your solution for a full house. However, your generator does not integrate into the Delta Pro products which is the point of the dual fuel generator. Your runtime cost will be in the multiple dollars per hour for a 33kw genset. If there is a diesel shortage, then what? Transporting diesel to your home is a pain, keeping diesel clean and ready, etc. When we had the power outage in 2008 in Seattle, we could not buy fuel as the stations could not pump. That lasted for several weeks in northern Seattle (Woodinville) with no power, no fuel, etc.

A lot of use will be waiting for that 😂👍🏼 That’s the thing it’s a piggy back system for solar then batteries then something like this when the sun is blocked by thick cloud layer and more. I’m wondering how the lithium ion battery does in really cold temps. I mean nothing has heaters and typically the generator is outside.

The grey tint in the oil is probably the assembly grease that they use when building the engines . It also acts as a corrosion inhibitor whilst the generator is in storage prior to sale.
@johnnysweekends

Hmmm interesting, do you happen to know the type of grease? I assumed they used a oil and then maybe a spray but who knows, changes every few years.
@brutter602

@@johnnysweekends sometimes it’s a graphite based assembly grease/ oil which helps protect the engine components in the first seconds of the start up till the oil gets around to do its job. Any good engine rebuilder will use some form of engine assembly lubricant.

One difference between air cooled & liquid cooled engines is piston tolerances. Though air cooled engines run a bit hotter, the delta between piston & cylinder dimentions on a cold aircooled engine is smaller than a liquid cooled engine and it heats up quicker. This reduce the wear of cold start on air cooled engines. The 5000rpm compensates for the 40cc difference with the Honda's 121cc. It does seem less elegant, but surprisingly, small capacity motorcycle engines are proving to suffer no reliability issues despite revving twice as high. Would be great to have some long term reviews. Thanks for your video.
@johnnysweekends

It will be interesting to see the longevity since most these will be used for short durations verses hours at a time to run all day or night. Only enough o really recharge a battery bank unless using a decent amount of power then sure it will longer. Will see what the long term does.

Sorry, if this has already said this, but I didn’t see anything. Be careful using 87 octane fuel unless it is ethanol-free. The ethanol can wreak havoc on hoses, seals…etc. if you don’t have a local source of ethanol free gas then go with the highest octane available. The higher octanes should have no or less ethanol. Ethanol-free fuel will typically store longer with Sta-bil too. Great video….thanks.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
Correct Ethanol free fuel does store longer but can be extremely expensive depending where you can get it. Most ranges I see are about $6-$8 a gallon but also depends where you live. That can be extremely expensive over time. Which I think I would primarily use propane at that point. Now if you use your generator regularly and filling up about once a week or two like your car then 87 is just fine and provides max power. Premium won’t provide and performance and sometimes can even create more carbon build up depending on the user. Now it does store a while longer but still contains the same amount of ethanol. If you use the unit regularly 87 is just fine. If you use it only once or twice a month or maybe a little less, premium may be a good option, if using even less then a stabilizer or fuel conditioner which I always recommend should be added. If storing long periods ethanol free would be great but still drain the carb. I tend to buy premium in the winter for the last couple runs for my lawn mower as I may not use that fuel for a month or two depending on weather. But once the season hits I’m back to 87. I don’t really even have issues with my equipment from sitting. But I also do the proper maintenance and storing..👍🏼

Most all small generators and medium do not have an oil filter. It’s like lawn equipment you won’t find unless it’s a bigger unit. And fuel prices vary depending where you are. But gasoline has more btu per gallon. So if price was equal gas wins for more power or energy per gallon

Well it’s not as simple. Because that generator can’t do what this one does. This is meant to compliment the ECOFLOW products and charge them up automatically. Meaning they can start and stop all on there own once set. You can start it with you phone or stop it. Set how many watts you want to charge from 1000 watts to 1800 watts from the phone and once percentage is reached on the battery level the generator will just shut off on its own and then you are on battery power again. One gallon of fuel can provide 5.4kw of energy for the battery systems. And chargers ECOFLOW products using Dc verses ac. As a stand alone unit this is not a good option but if you own ECOFLOW products then this is a pretty cool unit

Great review. From a practical perspective, if you have the EcoFlow DP (100lbs) set up, it tends to be stationary. I would have to set it up in my basement. Then consider that the dual fuel generator needs to be set up outside. So here we go, roll the DP upstairs, etc. That is why if I were to use this dual fuel generator I would get two Delta 2s, weighing less than 30 lbs each and charge one while the other is in use, as needed. Just an idea…
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
That’s kinda the reason Honda and there new system will use swappable battery packs. One can be charge while the other is in use. It’s kinda a nice idea almost like Bluetti. But ECOFLOW does have there smart batteries as well but you need the main unit. Which if that dies well..? So then you need one unit and two batteries and then a generator lol.

I actually like the advantages of propane because for one it sucks bit for two, if i buy two bottles that are new and full i can leave them closed for years before the bottles expire and gasokine i cant do that. Only thing is gasoline is a bit easier to get depending on the times. So for short term you might want to use gasoline but really propane is useful. You already need it for the cast iron flat top grill. People may be using these fkr things like ogffrid airbnbs or camping, weird stuff lime at base camps.of long hiking expeditions. There might not always be good gasoline but only a couple bottles of propane holds enormous energy density and its useful even if the bottle is of questionable integrity if youre in the 3rd world situations. Gasolime eill be very common and easy to get in usa. So is propane. Different fuels is better. @@johnnysweekends Thank you sir. Good to know. This cements my plans to add more watt hours to my Delta Pros using a different route. Because I have a couple of mini splits to each of my Delta Pros, it EATS up my watt-hours like crazy. I live in the desert where in the summer, it never even gets below 100 degrees at night even, and in the day, it's 110 degrees for well over 30 days straight. My plans will be to replace grid power going TO my Delta Pros that I have set to input 200 watts . I will add a 6000 watt inverter / charge controller (the EG4 6000XP Off-Grid Inverter from Signature Solar) and connect it to (for starters) 2 of their EG4 batteries to add WAAAY more watt hours. THIS system will be separately charged using about 4000 watts of solar panels. Then use the electrical plug from that inverter setup to take at least 200 watts consistently from the EG4 batteries as well as the EcoFlow Pro batteries just to keep things from going to the lowest charge (18%) before I run out of power to my mini splits. This is my plan to add WAY more watt-hours to my Delta Pro systems..... Thoughts??

@wildwestunlimited mini splits no matter 120 or 240 still burn some energy. You may want to look into the hybrid mini splits that run off solar entirely. You could run the batteries into the DP through DC solar input for better conversion in the solar input but still have to figure out what setup is best for you. Also with those temps battery efficiency is also lost as well. Tough conditions for sure. Look into these hybrids signaturesolar.com/eg4-hybrid-ac-dc-solar-air-conditioner-1-ton/?ref=JWKNDS

@@johnnysweekends Well darn, I knew I'd forget to state something about my setup.... you caught me. Yes, the mini split units that I've bought (two of 'em so far) are hybrid units. During the day, bright sunshine, they run 100% on solar panels, WHILE my DP units charge. The ones that I buy are called "Airspool" and I get them from San Tan Solar because, they are the same Chinese pieces / parts AND that solar store is driving distance from me and I go pick it up with ZERO shipping.... AND ..... Here in Arizona, we pay ZERO sales taxes on anything solar. So yes, I'm already using a hybrid mini split that uses 120 volts. I plan to buy at least 2 more in my entire solar built-out. Air Conditioning is BY FAR the most energy consumptive thing in ANY home here, so if I can eliminate the AC energy usage, I'll be doing GREAT! .... PLUS, when it's 110 PLUS degrees here and, what if the electricity goes out for 3 days, a week, two weeks.... man, most everyone who decided to bug in would be either dead or HURTING bad. I'd rather have quiet, ground mounted solar array so no one can see into my back yard and have QUIET mini splits running tor AC. mini splits And YES, they are SOOOOOO quiet even on 100% FULL blast. I really like them a lot!

Comparing this smart generator with a regular generator is about the same as comparing a personal computer with a calculator. Both can count something. But a computer can do a lot of other things, but a calculator can only count, that’s all. In my conditions, when access to the generator is difficult, remote starting and control of a smart generator is one of its main advantages. With it, I can build a nearly maintenance-free system that runs automatically. With Honda this option is not possible. Honda is a cool unit, but this cool unit seems to be from the last century. There's not even an hour meter... Even using this smart generator separately from the eco system is completely justified if you want to get almost complete automation and control over the emergency power process. If you use an eco-system, then such a smart generator has no competitors and is simply not replaceable.

Because of that, I would not use it to charge my Delta Pro units. I also wonder how long it would take to charge from almost zero percentage using propane, then SOMEHOW calculate the difference in cost of how much it would cost to charge the EcoFlow with two batteries just from the house outlet.... In other words, it costs how much for the propane and then how much for charging from the home outlet. I know not all electricity charges are the same depending on your electricity company but that would be a great comparison.

I'm just curious. Why that generator runs at 5000 rpm. While most others run at 3600 RPM.. This motor ain't going to last long at full tilt boogie throttle. Those still seems, reasonably quiet. I just don't like the note of that pitch. It's too high. So… I'll just have to be happy. With my current, 4.5 kW, Briggs & Stratton generator by Craftsman. In an open frame. With a 3 gallon or is that 5 gallon gas tank. For extended run times. And a pull start. The good old-fashioned style. But it only outputs, 120 volts. And I really need one that outputs, 240. For the HVAC, central air conditioning and heating system. I have in a, 3 separate room, diesel box truck. Recording Studio on Wheels! I go where the live shows go. To record and/or broadcast live audio and video entertainment events. And so really have never paid for a ticket. To an all day rock 'n' roll festival. With chart topping bands on the radio. They have to pay me! To listen to and record that stuff. That I do so well. Everything sounds like a hit record under my fingertips. As I am highly accomplished. And it's so easy for me. I don't even have to think about it. I go on autopilot. And don't even have to be fully conscious. To do a, superlative job. After doing it on the national level for nearly 40 years. All totaled. So, generator yes! 5000 RPM I'm not so certain about? How will it survive in the summertime? It's going to be running superhot. And it's not like it gets a lot of air. Other than through the carburetor. And how long that LCD display will last before the heat, kills it? I already had that problem with one Chinese diesel generator. The motors were fine clones of a, well established, Japanese diesel. It was all the other support stuff. That kept melting. I eventually returned it and took a nearly $1000 loss. What a nightmare that was. Just to get my hands on a diesel generator. For my diesel truck. With a 50 gallon tank. And I'm sorry. The fumes from gasoline just will not do! And so propane is the next logical alternatives. Though a bit more costly. It'll be less dangerous and far less smelly. If I just stick to, propane. And throw Homer Simpson some work. I've been suffering from gas for years. RemyRAD

I'm not talking for a bull shit 2,3 hours power outages I'm talking 20 hours daily power outages for 11 months and counting. Ecoflow raptor generac and many other fail in real life. Hondas need oil and gas and that it. Thousands of people in PuertoRico can be witnessed the quality of hondas.
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
Ok that’s great but maybe you didn’t read my response fully. The Hondas are great. But it doesn’t do what this does!!!! It’s totally different. This is part of the ECOFLOW ecosystem and it’s a little different in how it works. But it also uses the predator engine which numerous reports of people on here with into the thousands of hours running daily and more. But I think that’s the issues with any of them. Just like a car on the highway could easily hit a million miles in 10 years if treated well and always used. Verses a vehicle that’s used rarely and sits most the time. Again I own two Hondas a eu3000 and 2200i. But this is meant for something different. Hope that clears some things up for you.

@@johnnysweekends I understand don't take me wrong, but real life experience no one has a better generator than honda so far. That is the truth. Here we are not camping we are living a unfortunately reality of lack of energy.

That I understand, it’s tough out there. And for sure, in those situations I would also be packing up my Honda as well, and my off grid set up would probably be different. Obviously it changes for everyone depending on funding and more.

Hi, thanks for useful review. I'm also consider to buy dual fuel generator as a backup solution for my Delta 2. But here in Ukraine it can be a problem to refill LPG, or get some petrol. so I'm thinking whether it's possible or not to connect generator to natural gas tube, we have one in our house. I'm not sure that the pressure will be enough to properly work of smart generator. What do you think, is it poy? Currently 40% of pur power infrastructure are not working after rus terrorist attack by missiles and iranian drones :( so situation are not so good, and we are off grid 12-14h per day. Thanks in advance. And sorry for my English

Wow sounds crazy out there!!! Unfortunately this model can not be a tri fuel unit. The regulator is designed for propane and set for the amount of btu’s propane has.
@mrwhiteinca
@mrwhiteinca Жыл бұрын
You can buy a natural gas regulator I have a champion tri-fuel it runs on propane or natural gas or gas petrol I mean on natural gas you lose a couple hundred Watts but you can add an natural gas regulator manifold to any generator as far as I know
@johnnysweekends
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
You can but I don’t know if you can add it to this unit already. That would be kinda a waist. You would want to buy the gas version only of this unit and then do what I did and add the tri fuel kit. This will allow you to use all 3. But once they add a internal regulator set for propane it pretty much means it can’t be adjusted. I don’t know of a way to convert this one only the original

KS 4000iEG S (or some smaller unit) "you can use generator with both a portable gas cylinder and with a stationary capacity for gas storage (gasholder). Connection has to be made by a certified specialist. The pressure in the supply system must not exceed 16 Bar." Don't know what the pressure for natural gas stationary system is, i don't have it. Planning to get 2000 or 4000 model for myself.

For $1600 bucks I would expect it to be higher wattage and have a 30 amp plug on it, I mean that is a lot of money to run a lamp or charge a cell phone...lol 1800 watts will run a small drill or something but you are not going to be able to run a vacuum or a circular saw because they draw too many amps.

Well this isn’t really meant to be a stand alone generator. This is meant to compliment the ECOFLOW ecosystem and does things other generators can’t do. It’s pretty cool.

Battery banks are nice when camping especially if your campground don’t allow generators to run all night. Run the generator to charge them up and run all night on battery. Any battery bank like these are far superior to run an rv overnight then your usual deep cycle lead battery

Nice generator but the $1,600 price tag for a peak 1800 and running 1600 watt generator is very steep.
@johnnysweekends

It’s expensive because it goes with the ECOFLOW products mainly. Being that it can start and stop on its own with no assistance. But agree a pinch steep. But your paying for the tech more then the power.

Haha no friggin way I would pay what they are asking for that when there are equal quality dual fuel chanmars for less than half the price. For that price they should have put a real mz80 but then they would probably want 3k for it

Agree. For people who want plug and play this is all pretty simple stuff. But you can go a lot cheaper and have the same capabilities and capacity. You could build your own battery system or even do a server rack battery set up which is kinda in a the middle but really simple now to set up. If you don’t need portable but want simple that’s what I tell people to go with. SOK or eg4 has a nice selection.

Why not just buy a battery generator?? Generators are still to loud .. If we were in a apocalyptic state I wouldn't use one of those because people would kill you for it or whatever supplies you have..

This is to compliment the whole ecoflow system. And battery generators or power stations really because they are just storage devices do not last long enough at times for what you are doing. So this can charge the system up automatically and shut off when needed. It’s fully automated. It’s pretty cool for sure!
