The exterior straps are there to make the bag smaller, when you need the bag to be thinner. I have this bag and I can recommend it for people looking for a low budget and eco-friendly bag for Ryanair, Wizz Air, Vueling, Eurowings, Easyjet, etc. However, there are cons. The bag is not waterproof. It can handle a few drops, but for a truly rainy day you are going to wish you had a rain cover from a hiking store. Also, the laptop compartment is about 0,5cm smaller than they advertise. I had to strech the bag in order to fit my 35,5 cm long laptop, and over time it broke in that area where I streched it. If your laptop is 35 cm long or smaller, it should be fine! When you wear the bag on your back with a laptop in the laptop compartment, it is really uncomfortable! I would recommend to put the laptop in the main compartment, protected on the outside by a sweater, just as cabin max has shown in a video about packing Ryanair bags. This way, you have a softer surface along your back. If you can avoid bringing a laptop alltogether and are able to sit through flights, train and bus rides with just a book and a phone, do not bring a laptop to begin with! I recently realized this year on my italy trip that I only used my laptop once, and that I could have saved myself the weight and space by not packing it at all. One last thing about this backpack: do not think that the outermost small pockets are safe! I nearly had the outermost pockets robbed from in Barcelona when I was changing metro lines at sants station. The thief was gone the moment I realized someone was messing with my backpack. Do not store your valuables here! Or just wear the backpack on your chest, or carry it like a suitcase on the handle.

Great video! One question. What are the exterior straps with what looks like buckle ends on them? Is this a chest strap?

these are unfortunately not chest straps. It's some sort of compression straps just for the backpack itself. Hope this answers your question.

Hi Mate, I accidentally bought the Ecohub 45x36x20 version, do you think it will still fit the WIZZAIR 40x30x20 baggage checker if don't fillup the bag? Thank you.

can you really charge your phone from it??? I wish it would not have the laptop pocket, it takes away too much space. I personally would buy it for short trips, where I would not pack my computer, and would prefer to have more space for that. any recommendation (keeping with this size of course)? Thanks.

I totally agree with you about the laptop section. I never use these and it would be much more beneficial for me to have the extra space in the bag!

Do you know what the black strap on the back is that snaps on at the top? What is it used for?

Someone else has a video showing that if you cross them like an "X", they hold the straps together so when you carry the bag with the handle, they keep the straps neatly tucked up to the bag (and not flopping around).

great video. how's the quality of the bag like what kg's of weight it can hold?

The quality is pretty good and the bag doesn’t feel heavy on the back. I use it almost daily these days. The weight it can hold…hard to say but up to like 6-8 kilogram should be no issue. What I really like is the big laptop compartment. I always use it for my 16 inch macbook pro. Hope this helps a bit! Best, Marcel

I did measure this for you. However, I did not have the perfect measuring tool at hand, so there's no guarantee for these measurements. I would say it's around 23 cm (width) by 36 cm (length) inside (=main compartment). However, as the material of the backpack is really soft, if it is heavily packed, these dimensions could obviously be stretched a bit. Hope this helps.

I am looking at purchasing this bag for an upcoming trip. Im worried the listed dimensions arent acurate and it will get denied. This might be a weird question, but have you measured it to see if it's accurate ?

they are accurate. And I have used the backpacks on many flights (also with Ryanair for example) and it was never an issue. Which airline are you flying with?

@MaschiTuts United Air, it must be no more than 17 inches H 10" Wide and 8"deep. This looks like the best option if the size on Amazon is accurate.

It is definitely correct. I used it with Vueling, Ryanair, and Easyjet with 0 Problems. Fits under the seat like a hand in a glove.
