On the chart with autism there I would note that autism is not an autoimmune disorder but a neurodevelopmental condition. As understanding on autism grows, more people get diagnosed but that doesn’t mean that there are more autistic people but that fewer fly under the radar.

Simple rule. Never speculate with money I can not afford to lose. Stocks and bonds are speculation using IOUs. Protect yourself. Live simply, below my means, enjoy what I have.

Hey Sven, I was just wondering how your personal portfolio has performed over the last 5+ years relative to The S&P500 & Nasdaq-100. Obviously if you don't wish to disclose this then that's fine 👍
@Value-Investing13 сағат бұрын
the model portfolio on the platform since May of 2018 is around 12% per year, just shy of the S&P 500, but ok, I made many mistakes but on target - I can't know what the market will do!

@Value-Investing Not bad! It's hard to beat the irrational market as a value investor especially in speculative bull cycles. Merry Christmas 🎄

Great take even though Sweden is not really representative considering that everything they do right only helps a very small number of people. Tiny states are easier to manage especially when they have much resources per head but larger populations can’t really take them as an example.
@Betweoxwitegan16 сағат бұрын
That's just equivocally not true, yes Sweden has like 25% more land area per capita which has a positive correlation with resource deposits however The US produces far more resources than Sweden on a per capita basis due to higher quality deposits and it's advantageous geography, also because The US has worse labour laws, etc which makes mining corporations better off. This notion that bigger countries couldn't possibly do what smaller countries do is pseudoscience We could also look at the positive correlation between resource extraction and pollution with Sweden having much lower levels of pollution than The US
@ibrahimciftci959911 сағат бұрын
@ I was talking about resources and manageable population size not just resources. It’s proven that tiny states are easier to manage and tend to have higher life quality and higher gdp per head or do think it’s a coincidence? Are you trying to fight logic and many studies or even trying to compare Sweden with the USA? I mean that would be laughable. So why are only tiny countries with a population size of metro areas capable of doing what Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Singapore, Switzerland etc do? So now we can compare China to Sweden?
@ibrahimciftci959910 сағат бұрын
@ it is proven that large populations lose productivity at a certain size as well. Yes it work taking Sweden as an example having 40 million people like perhaps Canada does but a country with 85 million like Germany is already in a completely different situation. I mean USA has higher wealth per head than Sweden and higher gdp per head so certain thinks can work but I see this as an anomaly. Just have a look at the 20 largest countries in the world and compare them to the 20 smallest in the world and tell me why non of them are similar. Sweden offers a good life to a very small number of people so it’s not special or impressive anyway. Countries like the USA, Germany, France and Japan or even China are far more impressive by any means considering how many people have a chance to have a good life there.
@Betweoxwitegan9 сағат бұрын
@ibrahimciftci9599 Of course you can compare China to Sweden, the problem with larger countries is that they tend to be more unequal which leads to lower voter turnouts and a bunch of negative externalities. The primary factor which explains national differentials is inequality and so yes The US has a less "manageable" population than Sweden does because it has less civic participation. Everything at the end of the day comes down to state governance, Singapore was able to go from a dirt poor society to a very wealthy one through good governance. Yes countries are different based on their populations and landmass but that is only really important if your governance is bad, after all a country should pursue optimal strategies for it's unique situation
@Betweoxwitegan9 сағат бұрын
@ibrahimciftci9599 Theoretically having a larger landmass means that you should support your citizens more than a country with a lower landmass, the only reason we don't see this is because of higher inequality levels. Yes The USA might have higher per capita GDP, wealth or income but what about median GDP, wealth and income? Sweden is where it is because of good governance relative to most of the world, the same goes for all the Nordics. I mean Iceland has barely any accessible useful natural resources apart from geothermal energy and yet by most international metrics it's near the top.
