We get an update on the G20 summit, which welcomed the African Union as a permanent member and took place for the first time in India as the country faces criticism for bulldozing slums near the site of the meeting. "What we are seeing is a period of significant realignments," says economics professor Jayati Ghosh, who critiques the meeting for a lack of action and largely performative events such as a negotiated joint statement which stopped short of condemning Russia's aggression in Ukraine. "This G20 has done nothing for the major problems of our time," says Ghosh, who calls on the group of world leaders to act on climate change and wealth inequality. "The G20 is a collection of potentially very powerful governments - that don't necessarily represent the interests of their own people, I might add - but nonetheless, this collection has not done very much over the last 12 to 13 years."

The current market/economy is unnecessarily tougher for boomers/senior citizens, I’m used to just buying and holding assets which doesn’t seem applicable to the current rollercoaster market plus inflation is catching up with my portfolio. I’m really worried about survival after retirement.

I am Indian and India was doing very average in economy and these great famous Western educated professors some even Nobel winner Economists used to suggest changes that can do miracles. Finally govt got few of these to the top and they failed miserably. We finally realized that most of these were theoretical knowledge and lack much on ground...experience.....many of these foreign settled professors so don't have much connect and understanding of the ground reality...

Many economists have been offering solutions to India for decades, It's just that India is too incompetent. If India wants to achieve great development, it must take greater risks. Without the courage to face difficulties, you can't overcome them. This is India's current predicament. India always wants the least cost or the greatest benefit. This is totally wishful thinking.

This Jayati Ghosh is more of a Western stooge supported by both Democrats and Republicans. They have a job to perform. Undermine India with a false narrative. It is same when India makes significant strides in Space Science, nuclear energy, food production, rising up in GDP, etc. The entire West has been demonizing India. Ever since Britian lost India as it's most productive colony Even Western humanity studies in schools, universities and media is full of hate and misinformation for India and Hindus. Good cop, bad cop strategy.

All that I could hear from Jayanti was Nothing, nothing, nothing… So I asked Bard what did G20 achieve so far. Posting only a portion of Bard’s answer. Here are some specific examples of G20 achievements: In 2009, the G20 agreed to a $4 trillion stimulus package to revive the global economy. This package helped to prevent a deeper recession and laid the groundwork for the subsequent recovery. In 2010, the G20 agreed to reforms of the financial system, including new capital requirements for banks and stricter oversight of hedge funds. These reforms have helped to make the financial system more resilient to future crises. In 2015, the G20 agreed to the Paris Agreement on climate change. The Paris Agreement is a landmark international agreement that aims to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. In 2020, the G20 agreed to a debt service suspension initiative (DSSI) to help low-income countries cope with the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The DSSI has provided billions of dollars in debt relief to over 50 countries. So what is the point in interviewing an economist ?

@@dinesh6489I guess you can use Bard and find the answers for yourself. Just to get you started on it, say for example, I picked the last point and asked Bard whether he knows how many biillion dollars were provided as debt relief and it promptly gave the answer - "According to the World Bank, the DSSI has provided over $12 billion in debt relief to over 50 countries as of March 2023. The largest beneficiaries of the DSSI have been Ethiopia, Zambia, and Chad." I picked the first point and asked for details. And here is what I got. The $4 trillion stimulus package agreed to by the G20 in 2009 was a coordinated effort by the world's largest economies to inject money into the global economy and prevent a deeper recession. The package included a mix of fiscal and monetary measures, such as tax cuts, spending increases, and interest rate cuts. The fiscal measures were designed to boost demand in the economy by putting more money in the pockets of consumers and businesses. The monetary measures were designed to make it cheaper for businesses to borrow money and invest. The G20 stimulus package was a significant effort to address the global financial crisis. It is estimated that the package helped to prevent a deeper recession and laid the groundwork for the subsequent recovery. Here are some specific details of the G20 stimulus package: The United States enacted a $787 billion stimulus package, which included tax cuts, spending increases, and infrastructure investment. China enacted a $4 trillion stimulus package, which included infrastructure investment and tax cuts. Japan enacted a $1 trillion stimulus package, which included public works spending and tax cuts. The European Union enacted a $1.3 trillion stimulus package, which included government spending and loans to banks. The G20 stimulus package was not without its critics. Some argued that it was too large and would lead to higher inflation. Others argued that it was not focused enough on helping the poor and vulnerable. Despite these criticisms, the G20 stimulus package is generally seen as a success. It helped to prevent a deeper recession and laid the groundwork for the subsequent recovery. Again what is the point in interviewing an economist to hear "Nothing" ? In this information age, information is available everywhere. So when they pick experts for interviews we expect the experts to do some homework and come prepared to give relevant information. You don't need an expert to say "Nothing".

Are things always black and white? If the meaning of “democracy” is “for the people and by the people” than China has per all the economic indicators have benefit the common people and the people supports it’s government and this is not be saying it. Per the democratic US Harvard Gazette research over 90% of Chinese people support their government and per the French IPSOS research the results were the same. The US is a suppose to be a “democratic” country and it has proven to overthrown other democratic elected presidents….now that is oxymoron.

As an indian i totally agree with Jayati Ghosh. All these countries can't even come together for the Environment. I was hoping India would lead the movement away from fossil fuels but its playing dress-up with a country name change. If we keep this capalistic model that favors resource comsumption for profits at the expense of the planet, we haven't learnt anything and are just playing with tokens for control. Where is the balance that Hinduism brags about? You want to call yourself Bharat when you can't even see humanities light (align with the planet, wake up)...

@@paranoah8550 again do you not understand Capital expenditure and Operation expenditure? Capital expenditure= building new things like roads, buildings, rail (public infrastructure) or in India's case digital public infra (india stack). Operational expenditure= paying salaries, paying for fuel, admin costs etc. Moefcc india has 3k expenditure for salaries to safeguard national parks. For sustainability India pumps massive amounts into renewables which is part of min of energy, the same goes with paperless expo push etc This cost is for building new things that'll last a decade or more
@paranoah8550
@paranoah8550 8 ай бұрын
@@oyehoyemon2286 Your reply seems deliberately unclear. The 5000 crores is not salaries....the kind of work that has been done for G20, is done on contractual basis. Look the the break up of the costs. A lot of it has gone into signages and "branding" which is all the temporary signs saying "G20 india" you see all over not just Delhi, but also cities like Pune. In a country like ours, it is an absolutely unnecessary expenditure
